The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Manager, Energy Management Services to lead a team of Energy Managers delivering services across key portfolios and sectors.
In this role, you will provide people leadership and technical &engineering oversight, ensuring high-quality, consistent service delivery aligned with organizational priorities and provincially funded programs.
This is a strategic leadership role focused on team performance, technical quality, and stakeholder relationships—not direct day-to-day project delivery.
What you'll do
Lead & Develop a High-Performing Team
- Coach, mentor, and support Energy Managers and team members.
- Set priorities, allocate resources, and manage performance.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning.
Provide Technical & Engineering Oversight
- Ensure energy management work meets professional and regulatory standards.
- Review and approve analyses, methodologies, and business cases.
- Act as an escalation point for complex or high-risk initiatives.
Drive Performance & Strategic Planning
- Support planning, forecasting, and performance targets.
- Monitor results and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Identify risks and opportunities across assigned portfolios.
Engage Stakeholders & Partners
- Represent EfficiencyOne with clients, partners, and regulators.
- Support client relationships, contract development and renewals, and reporting.
- Collaborate across internal teams to ensure aligned delivery.
Support Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to innovation, service enhancements, and best practices.
- Share insights and support ongoing team development.
What Will Help You Succeed?
- · 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including energy management or demand-side management.
- · 5+ years leading technical or professional teams.
- · Strong expertise in energy management (audits, modeling, M&V, business cases).
- · Experience working with government, utilities, or regulators.
- · Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- · Strong judgment and ability to navigate complex environments.
- · Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and energy modeling tools (e.g., RETScreen).
- · Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
Education & Certifications
- · Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- · Registered as a Professional Engineer (PEng) in Nova Scotia.
- · Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation (required or strongly preferred).
In the first week, expect to:
- · Meet with the EfficiencyOne Senior Manager, Energy Management Services, and the broader Services team.
- · Develop a high-level plan for the first 90 days in your role as a Manager, Energy Management Services
- · Be prepared to read! EfficiencyOne Energy Manager service manual, business program manuals, protocols on measurement and verification, energy auditing guidelines, example reports from Energy Managers, and examples of other organizations' energy management plans. Ensuring you are familiar with both technical resources and reference material is critical to executing your short-term plan on-site.
- · Meet with the Energy Managers who will report to you and learn about your portfolio of customers.
- · Meet with your Energy Management Service clients, understand their priorities and expectations.
In the first month, expect to:
- · Become familiar with the people and organizations within the sector. Organizational awareness includes understanding people who influence projects and are familiar with the facilities and the processes, i.e., procurement, budget planning, etc.
- · Review ISO 50001 – Energy Management Systems and apply it to your present and future planning.
- · Meet with Efficiency NS Program Managers to better understand project incentives and program processes.
- · Meet with other EfficiencyOne Managers in the Energy Management Service to bounce ideas around on strategies and tactics that will increase your influence and positive impact on the account organization; and
- · Meet with the consultant network to explore their services that could be beneficial for your account.
In the first three months, expect to:
- · Establish monitoring, tracking, and reporting for your customer portfolio. Be accountable for your team's forecast.
- · On-site energy audits with Energy Managers to become familiar with your direct report's customer facilities.
- · Develop goals and objectives for the year that align with team, departmental, and organizational goals.
