JOB PURPOSE
Provide leadership and assume the responsibility, authority and accountability for nursing practice and delivery of patient centered care to patients and families on the 3 East Surgery Unit. This is a clinical management role that collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care through planning, organizing, and coordinating human, financial and material resources. The Nurse Manager is responsible to ensure that patient care meets standards of practice and systems/processes of care are continually improving. May perform other duties as assigned. May be reassigned throughout the department as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Active registration with NANB
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
- Current BCLS certification
- Minimum of 5 of the last 7 years surgery experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a supervisory, leadership and/or management role
- Demonstrated assessment skills in caring for acute cardiac and stroke patients
- Demonstrated effective teaching, interpersonal and team building skills
- Demonstrated effective leadership, communication, organizational skills
- Demonstrated adherence to relevant legislation including the Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act to ensure all patient, business, financial and employee information is accessed on a need-to-know basis
- Patient safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare. Successful candidates must be accountable for creating a culture of safety, working as a team, communicating effectively, and responding to adverse events
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with a variety of health care providers, including nurses, physicians, managers, and staff from other disciplines
- Good work record and ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Ability to perform the duties of the position
