Western Health is offering a six-week Hemodialysis Education Program for Licensed Practical Nurses
employed within the Western Health CUPE bargaining unit. Expressions of interest are being accepted
for 1 temporary call-in seat. This program is expected to commence 08 June 2026. The purpose
of this program is to ensure that sufficient numbers of staff are educated and available to provide quality
care to the residents of this region by providing short and long term relief for staff members assigned to the
Hemodialysis Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
Candidates who are selected for this program will be required to agree to the following conditions:
1. Sign a return-in-service agreement for 18 months of worked service prior to the commencement of this
program;
2. Upon completion of this program, the successful employee must be available for relief shifts which will
include twelve-hour shifts, Monday through Saturday, in the Hemodialysis Unit at Western Memorial
Regional Hospital for a period of 18 months of worked service;
3. The successful employee must also understand that they will not be eligible to participate in any other
education program which requires a return-in-service commitment until the 18 months of worked
service related to the Hemodialysis Education Program has been completed.
4. The permanent employees must also be prepared to transfer to the Float Pool with his/her regular
position protected for the 18 month return-in-service period to accommodate the scheduling of relief
shifts.
Admission Requirements: Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of
Newfoundland and Labrador and completion (including practical) of a recognized IV Therapy program,
blood and blood products administration and CVAD certification is mandatory prior to the
commencement of this education program. Current certificate in Basic Life Support (within the last 12
months) or a willingness to complete prior to the commencement of the Hemodialysis Education Program is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is also required.
