The Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation and Impact Fund (HCi3) is looking for a Marketing and Communications Manager to join our organization. In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive climate action, support partnerships and fundraising, elevate the impact of our programs and investments, and promote equity and Reconciliation as an integral part of building a sustainable and just future.

About HCi3

The Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation and Impact (HCi3) Fund supports carbon‑reduction initiatives in the Halifax/Kjipuktuk region and throughout Nova Scotia through scalable, community‑focused solutions that also advance social equity, Reconciliation, and other community and environmental benefits. Founded in 2020 as part of the Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) network, HCi3 operates as a subsidiary of EfficiencyOne, leveraging both national and local expertise to drive innovation and knowledge-sharing.

Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Manager leads the development and execution of strategies that strengthen awareness of HCi3, increase the impact of our programs, advance our fundraising goals, and engage diverse communities across the climate‑action ecosystem. This role is ideal for a creative, hands‑on communicator who excels at storytelling and translating complex climate solutions into accessible narratives, and enjoys working in a small, collaborative nonprofit environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Marketing & Communications Strategy: Develop and implement an annual marketing and communications plan, maintain and evolve HCi3's brand identity, and track performance.
  2. Digital Communications: Manage website content, updates, and analytics; lead social media strategy, content creation, posting, and community engagement; and create newsletters in coordination with program staff.
  3. Storytelling & Content Development: Highlight the impact of HCi3's work across different climate sectors through clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences.
  4. Program Communications Support: Collaborate with program staff to gather stories, develop communication materials that support program launches, milestones, and reporting; and ensure consistent, equity‑centred messaging
  5. Community Engagement: Organize occasional in-person events to support networking and knowledge sharing among HCi3's grantees, investees, and partners.
  6. Fundraising Support: Support senior management in fundraising and partnership development through compelling funder and stakeholder communications and marketing collateral.
  7. Internal & Network Collaboration: Work with staff and leadership to align communications with organizational strategy; liaise with LC3 Network communications leads to align and share knowledge where applicable.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field (nonprofit or climate‑related experience an asset).
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate impact clearly and compellingly.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and email marketing tools.
  • Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a small‑team environment.
  • A proven track record of managing multi-faceted projects and collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to HCi3's mission, including climate action, social equity, and Reconciliation.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with nonprofit or climate-related sectors, which could include some knowledge of climate science, deep energy retrofits, electric vehicles and/or renewable energy generation.
  • Intermediate to advanced graphic design skills
  • Photography or video production skills.
  • Knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, and digital advertising.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and applying inclusive communication practices.

Location/Hours

37.5 hours/week in HRM. Office-based or hybrid office/work-from-home arrangement is available. This job will involve engaging with people around the city and province so you will need to be available for in-person meetings and events. Having your own mode of transportation is not necessary. Our office is based out of EfficiencyOne's office in Burnside.
