About the Role

The Community Engagement Specialist, African Nova Scotian Communities, will play an integral role in the leadership, development, and implementation of projects in African Nova Scotian communities province?wide, with an initial focus on the African Nova Scotian Community Retrofit Pilot. This role plays a critical part in building trust, increasing awareness, and driving participation in the African Nova Scotian Communities Retrofit Pilot.
As a key liaison between EfficiencyOne and community partners, you will build strong relationships, support community?informed program delivery, and help advance awareness of energy efficiency programs and opportunities. This role is well-suited to someone who is collaborative, community?minded, and motivated by the opportunity to support long?term, positive impact.


What you'll do

· Work closely with the Program Manager, African Nova Scotian Pilot, and the Community Engagement Lead, African Nova Scotian Communities to support participant recruitment, pilot delivery, and educational and quality assurance commitments.

  • Initiate and support each phase of the African Nova Scotian Community Retrofit Pilot, including research, outreach, planning, and delivery in collaboration with consultants and internal teams.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for communities and consultants, with an initial focus on Preston and Guysborough.
  • Gather community feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and share insights with consultants and internal teams.
  • Provide guidance and follow-up related to participant questions, concerns, and complaints as needed.
  • Perform or coordinate site visits in response to participant concerns, document the customer experience, and collaborate on remediation actions with contractors and delivery partners where required.
  • Develop and support educational materials, outreach initiatives, engagement events, and the distribution of marketing materials in collaboration with community groups, associations, and partners.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver community events led by EfficiencyOne, including logistics, scheduling, promotion, and on-site support to ensure meaningful participation and engagement.

  • Maintain regular communication with community leaders, organizers, and members to ensure they are informed about Efficiency Nova Scotia programs and opportunities
  • Act as a trusted navigator, helping community members understand energy efficiency options, program benefits, eligibility requirements, and the full retrofit process from start to finish.
  • Support community members, directly or through access to EfficiencyOne resources, in seeking and selecting contractors for upgrades to homes and businesses.
  • Provide feedback on program and initiative design, including eligibility criteria, participant processes, website content, print materials, application forms, and scopes of work for partners and internal teams.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to participant applications, including collecting, organizing, and tracking required documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and supporting participants through the application process.
  • Regular travel within African Nova Scotian Pilot communities is expected.
  • Perform other related duties as required from time to time.

  • · Community College or University degree or diploma in a business-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • · Existing relationships and demonstrated ability to work in and with African Nova Scotian communities.
  • · Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle, along with a clear driver's abstract. If this is a barrier, we encourage you to speak with us.
  • · Project management experience, including planning, design, and execution, would be considered an asset.
  • · Experience in planning and coordinating community events is considered a strong asset.
  • · Ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • · Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • · Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to generate ideas, solve problems creatively, and adapt to changing needs.
  • · Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • · Strong organizational skills and comfort managing administrative processes, including document collection, tracking, and record-keeping.
