HR Specialist - Payroll and Benefits

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the HR Specialist - Payroll and Benefits will act as a payroll and benefits subject matter expert. They incumbent will ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and benefit administration. The HR Specialist - Payroll and Benefits will also support Group Human Resources programs and initiatives. The HR Specialist - Payroll and Benefits will support SuccessFactors (HRIS) administration and implementations.

About the Team

Butterfield employs more than 1,300 people across 10 jurisdictions. Our Human Resources team focuses on all areas of HR including talent management, culture and engagement, recruitment and retention, learning and development, payroll and benefits, and information management and analytics. Our global HR team works closely with key stakeholders and business leaders to provide a strategic partnership ensuring the business has the talent and resources required to meet growing demands while working collaboratively to create a positive and rewarding employee experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing full-cycle payroll on a semi-monthly basis for all BSSCL employees in collaboration with our third-party payroll provider and in accordance with our payroll processes and internal controls, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for all payroll and benefit related inquiries and support.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personnel files, payroll records, and benefit information in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Managing the payroll year-end process, including T4 creation in partnership with our third-party payroll provider, organization readiness, and year-end communication planning.
  • Liaising with third-party benefit broker and provider to resolve discrepancy and issues.
  • Overseeing employee benefits program administration, including, RRSP, medical and dental benefits and other voluntary benefits ensuring timely and accurate processing of enrolments, changes, and terminations.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal and provincial laws and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures related to payroll and benefits.
  • Conducting regular reviews of payroll and benefits data to ensure accuracy and completeness, and proactively identify and address any discrepancies or issues or escalate as required.
  • Preparing reports and analyses as needed for management, auditors, and other stakeholders, and providing timely and accurate data in response to ad-hoc requests.
  • Coordinating with HR team on offboarding processes, and ensure timely and accurate processing of employee departures.
  • Carry out any other duties as requested.

Your qualifications and skills include:

  • Post secondary education combined with a minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience with Payroll and Human Resources information systems including (Payworks, SAP SuccessFactors, etc).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in a SOX or similar control environment will be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information, with a strong commitment to data privacy and security and the ability to act impartially.
  • Proficiency in MS Office with particular experience and interest in further developing excel skills.
  • PCP certification is considered an asset.
