Reporting to the Manager, Communications & External Relations, the Senior Communications Advisor will play a critical role in shaping and delivering strategic communication plans that keep employees and the communities we serve informed and engaged.

We're looking for a self-starter who can think strategically, act decisively, and deliver results. You'll lead high-impact projects, provide expert counsel to senior leaders, and manage complex communications challenges with confidence.

This role requires exceptional writing skills, media relations experience including reputation and issues management, and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Lead strategic communications planning for internal and external audiences, aligning with business objectives and organizational priorities.
  • Advise senior leaders on communications strategies, reputation management, and proactive media engagement.
  • Develop and deliver communications plans for change initiatives, employee engagement, and external relations activities.
  • Serve as the primary media contact for the region, managing inquiries, interviews, and proactive outreach to enhance our profile in the community.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media, health care partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Create compelling content for multiple channels such as internal platforms, social media, press releases, speaking notes, Q&As, and more.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across internal and external communications.
  • Monitor emerging issues and opportunities, providing strategic recommendations to mitigate risks and maximize engagement.
  • Collaborate with Medavie communications colleagues on corporate social media and brand initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or other related field and five+ years related experience.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including editing, proofreading and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver communications strategies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills; ability to simplify complex information into clear, engaging messages.
  • Media relations expertise, including proactive outreach and issues management.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and managing sensitive, confidential matters.
  • Knowledge of digital communications trends and innovative engagement strategies.
  • Solid project management skills and ability to work independently as a self-starter.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours and occasional travel.

  • Strong interpersonal, project management and relationship-building skills with an ability to work with multi-stakeholder teams in a fast-paced environment, across locations and operating companies; responds to requests quickly and professionally.
  • A self-starter and problem-solver who works well independently and as part of a geographically dispersed, virtual team.
  • Understanding of best practices to communicate across a diverse, hybrid employee-base.
  • Strong understanding of change management theory and practice.
  • Advanced skills with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Webex.
  • Flexible to work outside of normal hours and open to occasional travel.

Pay Range:
73,465 - 82,648 CAD

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
