The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing mechanical systems and creating drawing packages for Bluedrop's simulation product group. The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Senior Director, Systems Engineering. The Mechanical Engineer will work on the improvement of Bluedrop's existing simulator products and working with a team to develop new simulation products.
Working in a team, performs the following tasks:
- Documenting and/or reviewing design specifications.
- Developing design concepts in AutoCAD Inventor.
- Analyzing and selecting the appropriate modeling technique(s) and design architecture.
- Developing preliminary and detailed models in AutoCAD Inventor.
- Developing detailed part drawings and assembly drawings, per internal drawing standards.
- Organizing model and drawing releases, per internal procedures.
- Incorporating design changes based on internal and external stakeholder feedback.
- Preparing fabrication drawing packages and specifications for sub-contractor quoting.
- Working closely with fabricators and machine shops to ensure quality products.
- Inspecting fabricated parts and assemblies (physical configuration audits).
- Communicating closely with assembly team to understand and resolve design-related assembly issues.
- Logging and managing Engineering Changes and Waivers
- Following documented systems engineering standards and practices.
- Participating in R&D projects, as assigned.
- Following and enforcing safe work practices in the integration facility.
- Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design and development of drawing packages.
- Minimum of 3 years experience with any professional CAD software, including a minimum of 1 year experience using AutoDesk Inventor.
- Knowledge of Skeleton modelling or top-down modeling techniques is a definite asset.
- Knowledge and application of GD&T callouts and tolerance stack-up is a definite asset.
- Knowledge of welding standards is an asset.
- Knowledge of PDM software and methods (such as AutoDesk Vault) is an asset.
- Experience with static and dynamic structural FEA tools is an asset.
- Eye for detail, following standards, and ensuring high quality deliverables.
- Highly organized, flexible, deadline driven and detail oriented.
- Hands-on experience in assembling, and/or troubleshooting mechanical systems are an asset.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and professional manner.
- Must be able to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance
