JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of the Nurse Educator is to support the educational needs of the nursing staff at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville, New Brunswick. Units include Surgical Services, Medical, ALC/Rehab. To educate staff to follow nursing practice standards and to always represent best practice for quality patient care and patient and staff safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Nurse with current registration in the province of New Brunswick
  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate of Nursing,
  • Minimum of 5 years current acute medical/surgical or CCU/Critical care experience with demonstrated clinical leadership ability and competence in professional practice
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Good organizational skills with any previous clinical educator experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and the ability to be self-directed
  • Good work record and the ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including maintaining competency in clinical skills by preforming regular nursing practice duties at the bedside
  • Proficient with computer skills, e., word, excel and power point
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct clinical teaching at the bedside in real-time
  • Provides in class teaching for adult learners, facilitates education of nursing staff in clinical procedures, new equipment, polices and development of skills necessary for safe patient care
  • Develops individualized nursing education plans, and provides mentorship & evaluation
  • Develops and maintains clinical standards and procedures for nursing staff
  • Acts as a resource and develops nursing competencies
  • Develop, plan, co-ordinate, schedule and present nursing courses, seminars and workshops to enhance clinical practice.
  • Assists with the delivery and ongoing evaluation of Medicine Neurosciences /Seniors Health orientation/mentorship programs
  • Promotes and demonstrates effective communication and helping relationship and serves as a mentor to nursing staff
  • Participates in organizational committees, work groups and planning teams as required
  • Maintains a record of all activities, (staff competencies, certifications, remediation plans) and provides a quarterly written report to the Clinical Director of Medicine and Neurosciences.
  • Participates in the development, revision, implementation, and evaluation of clinical standards, policies, procedures, and quality assurance initiatives as requested.
  • Assigned duties at the discretion of the URVH 2E or 2N manager
