Position: Full-Time Tactical Guard

Hours: 4 on 4 off rotation, 12 hour shifts
Payrate: $24.50
Job Description:
As a Tactical Healthcare Security Officer, you respond to alarms, emergency requests, and use your excellent verbal de-escalation skills to resolve incidents within the Emergency Department. You always maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling private information, and you never forget to smile while providing your incredible customer service.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Monitoring the Emergency Department (ED), managing any aggressive behavior of visitors, or patients within the ED; Providing security presence and support throughout the Emergency Department
- Conduct sets of rounds within the waiting room and the rest of the ED areas
- Assisting clinical staff with patients and/or visitors who are aggressive, using an abusive or threatening language or gestures.
- Sitting with aggressive, abusive, threatening, fall risk and flight risk patients, based on the clinical staff's requests, in the interim while waiting for a permanent patient watch coverage, when applicable.
- Responding to the code situations, including Code White or Code Silver situations, as needed.
- You will be required to write reports and investigate routine incidents
- Display excellent customer service skills and be able to work with people who are under stress or in need of medical assistance
- Assist in developing security plans for high risk patients
- Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts
- Oversee and support patient watch guards within the Emergency Department
- Work closely with local Law Enforcement and Emergency Services
- Ensure the safety of staff, patients, and visitors within the Emergency Department
- Assist hospital staff with patient restraints as required or directed according to standard operating procedures
- Adhere to all hospital policy and procedures and maintain compliance
- Prevent theft, violence or infraction of rules and regulations
- Monitor site visitors and perform ID checks in accordance with site policies and procedures
- Respond professionally to site emergencies (alarms, medical emergencies, fires and other urgent matters)
- Effectively communicate all suspicious activities, concerns, issues, and events to our dispatch team on behalf of the clients' assets
- Prepare and maintain professional and effective reports regarding the activities, security violations, and hazardous occurrences on site
YOU'RE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:
- This position includes enhanced physical requirement, including but not limited to the following:
- Be able to long standing, up to 12 hours.
- Be able to walk and patrolling the facility, including vertical commuting via multiple stairs.
- Ability to run and quickly respond to any code call within the assigned facility.
- Be able to participate in a physical training, including, use of force and physical restraining techniques
- Must have minimum 1-2 years of experience in security
- Diploma in Justice studies/police foundations is considered an asset
- Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia.
- Valid Standard/Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor).
- English (oral and written) fluency is a must.
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB).
- Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position.
- Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability.
