Job Details:
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Building Services, the Maintenance Worker I – Police Station is responsible for providing daily janitorial, facility operations, and light maintenance services at the Police Station and designated downtown municipal facilities. This position supports a safe, clean, and functional environment through routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, seasonal duties, minor repairs, and coordination with external contractors. The role also requires responding to maintenance calls, supporting operations during weather events, and ensuring secure areas are maintained to operational standards. This positions schedule is Monday through Friday with required overtime.
Qualifications Required:
- Graduation from University or trade school program would be considered an asset.
- A combination of relevant experience and training would be considered.
- Completion of Highschool or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
What You'll Do:
- Monday through Friday schedule with required overtime.
- Perform daily custodial and janitorial duties at the Police Station, with first-priority cleaning of cell blocks and secure operational areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of interior spaces, including hallways, stairwells, washrooms, locker rooms, and occupied areas.
- Complete scheduled cleaning of specialized areas such as the garage, exhibit rooms, evidence/ID rooms, drug section, and shooting range.
- Collect and manage garbage, recycling, and secure shredding materials at Police facilities and assigned downtown municipal locations.
- Carry out light maintenance and minor repairs, including painting, furniture and desk repairs, door adjustments, ceiling tile replacement, lightbulb changes, and furniture moving.
- Maintain working knowledge of building systems to identify issues and assist with troubleshooting and repairs.
- Coordinate and communicate with external contractors, escorting them within secure police facilities as required.
- Work collaboratively with janitorial contractors to address cleanliness issues and service deficiencies.
- Respond to maintenance calls and Building Services work orders at the Police Station, City Hall, and Library.
- Perform seasonal and weather-related duties, including leaf cleanup, snow and ice removal, salting, and assisting with snow removal operations.
- Conduct exterior and biohazard cleanup at Police and downtown locations in accordance with safety procedures.
Support operational and ceremonial needs, including flag raisings, remote facility cleaning, recordkeeping, overtime during emergencies, and other related duties as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
- Minimum of two to five-years related experience.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues, identify problems, and have them addressed.
- Ability to communicate effectively - both in writing and verbally - with staff, user groups, contractors, vendors, and members of the public.
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and files for the facility, equipment, and staff.
- Support management in obtaining corporate goals, initiatives, and efficiencies.
