The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) represents the interests of Nova Scotia's agricultural community. Today its members account for well over 90% of all agricultural production in Nova Scotia and brings together farm businesses representing all aspects of primary agriculture in the province. The NSFA tackles policy issues that impact the competitive and sustainable nature of the industry and takes an active role in supporting registered farms through the delivery of programs and services. The NSFA supports farms by providing tools, resources, best practices, and training while advocating on their behalf.

Position Overview

The NSFA is seeking a Workplace Initiatives Coordinator for a full-time position. As a not-for-profit, we believe in being transparent about how positions are funded. This role is supported through external funding from a well-established partnership, with the intention to renew and continue over time. The Workplace Initiatives Coordinator focuses on implementing practical, industry-informed initiatives that help farm businesses strengthen their workforce through improved recruitment, retention, workplace practices, and overall business management. The role operates within a diverse stakeholder environment and requires effective relationship management across industry, partners, and service providers.

The ideal candidate brings strong skills in program coordination, resource development, workshop design and delivery, and stakeholder engagement and has experience ensuring that initiatives are practical, accessible, and responsive to stakeholder needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of programs and initiatives that strengthen farm workforce development, including recruitment, retention, and workplace practices
  • Develop and maintain practical tools and resources to support farm businesses in workforce management and human resources
  • Coordinate and support agriculture skills training initiatives aligned with workforce needs, including identifying gaps, supporting program design, and connecting participants and employers to relevant opportunities
  • Support on-farm learning opportunities and workforce development initiatives that prepare individuals for employment in agriculture
  • Coordinate initiatives that support workforce needs, including employer support related to immigration programs, workplace inclusivity, and workforce planning
  • Review and support continuous improvement of tools, resources, and programming such as the Workplace Needs Assessment (WNA)
  • Engage with farm employers, workers, and industry partners to understand workforce needs and support participation in programs
  • Provide navigation support to connect farm businesses and workers to relevant programs, services, and resources
  • Liaise with stakeholders such as commodity groups, CAHRC, Farm Management Canada, and government to support collaboration and coordination of activities
  • Maintain relationships with industry organizations, training providers, and government
  • Support policy development and engagement in matters of human resources and workforce development
  • Actively participate in the Farm and Workforce Development Team to support the execution of the organization's strategic plan and activities
  • Track and document activities and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support funding and program reporting
  • Manage project budgets and expenditures
  • Collect feedback on training, workshops, and resources to inform continuous improvement
  • Evaluate programs to ensure deliverables are met and support the development of reports for funders and leadership

Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree (in business, agriculture, community development or related field)
  • 2-4 years experience coordinating, delivering and evaluating programs, initiatives, or training.
  • Understanding of workforce development, including recruitment, retention, and workplace practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of the agriculture industry is an asset
  • Experience working with small and medium-sized rural business or resource industries is required
  • Effective time management, problem-solving and organizational skills; Proficiency in M365 is an asset
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with industry, government, and community partners.
  • A Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a vehicle are required

Compensation

  • Starting annual salary between $58,700 - $65,700
  • 3 weeks of vacation annually plus annual Holiday office closure (December 24 - January 1)
