Director of Site Operations

Scotian Gold is currently looking for a Director of Site Operations. Reporting to the CEO you will lead maintenance, facilities, and operational infrastructure across our apple packing facility, fertilizer plant, feed mill, and storage operations (including controlled atmosphere). This role combines strategic oversight with a strong on-the-floor presence. Success requires actively engaging with teams, understanding equipment and workflows, and ensuring facilities, systems, and storage environments operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide direction and support to the Maintenance Manager, Storage Manager, and Operations leadership
• Coach leaders, remove barriers, and strengthen team effectiveness

Operations & Reliability

• Oversee maintenance programs, supporting preventive and predictive systems
• Improve equipment reliability, and overall operational performance
• Ensure refrigeration and controlled atmosphere (CA) systems operate effectively to protect product quality
• Support optimization of storage strategies and seasonal readiness

Facilities & Asset Management

• Oversee facilities and infrastructure across production, storage, and retail locations
• Oversee vehicle, forklift, and mobile equipment fleet management.
• Oversee the coordination of repairs, upgrades, and external contractors, ensuring effective execution and efficiency of the overall process

Financial & Capital Planning

• Develop and execute maintenance and facilities budgets
• Lead capital planning and project execution
• Ensure cost-effective decisions while maintaining reliability and product integrity

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Promote a strong safety culture across all sites
• Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and standards
• Support ongoing safety improvements and risk reduction

Systems & Continuous Improvement

• Strengthen maintenance systems, planning, and asset management
• Lead practical, results-focused continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years of leadership experience in operations, maintenance, or plant environments
• Strong technical/mechanical background
• Experience in unionized environments is an asset
• Proven leadership through collaboration, coaching, and influence
• Experience with budgeting, capital planning, and project management
• Post Secondary education or a technical diploma related to the role is considered an asset.
