The Opportunity
Reporting to the District Director, the Coordinator, Safety and Emergency Planning supports the safety of employees, tenants, and property assets by monitoring compliance with applicable legislation and corporate requirements. The role provides regular, data-driven updates on accident prevention, emergency preparedness, and operational readiness, while supporting continuous improvement in safety practices.
- Monitor compliance with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, Building Code Act, Environmental Act, and corporate policies.
- Conduct audits, analyze findings, and provide reports and recommendations to management.
- Support emergency preparedness by maintaining Emergency Response Plans and ensuring fire drills are scheduled, completed, and documented, track deficiencies and follow-up actions.
- Maintain accurate records of life safety systems, inspections, testing, and corrective actions.
- Monitor environmental safety programs (e.g., pest control, water management, air quality) and liaise with internal teams and external specialists.
- Review workplace incidents, injuries, and WCB claims; track trends and recommend corrective and preventative actions in collaboration with supervisors and JOHS Committees.
- Coordinate safety training programs, track certifications, and maintain training records.
- Ensure Business Continuity Plans are current and aligned with corporate requirements.
- Support administration of third-party bodily injury claims in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety processes, reporting, and overall program effectiveness.
Must Have
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent post-secondary education plus a minimum of 3-5 years' related experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered
- Must be proficient and knowledgeable of NS Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, NS Fire Safety Act, NS Building Code Act and NS Environmental Act.
- Knowledge of audit, inspection, and hazard assessment process is required.
- Knowledge of loss prevention and investigation techniques required.
- Certified in the following areas: emergency first aid; WHMIS; fall arrest and confined space.
Assets:
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation (or working toward).
- Real Property Administration designation.

This position requires a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Salary: $ 69,082.36 - $ 81,221.56 hourly (TE 25)
- Schedule: 35-hour work week
