Horizon Health Network is seeking a General Surgeon to join our collegial and collaborative team in beautiful Upper River Valley, New Brunswick.

The Upper River Valley Hospital is the newest hospital in New Brunswick. It has been designated as the first full-service hospital in Canada to be recognized as a leader in energy and environmental design.

Incentives & Remuneration

Remuneration is via an alternative funding plan (AFP) arrangement.

Successful applicants may be eligible to receive the following:

  • Rural recruitment incentive of $100,000.00 with a 4-year return of service.
  • Moving expense reimbursement is also available.

What you will do

  • Perform both elective and emergency general surgical operations.
  • Provide outpatient services for the assessment and management of patients including clinics and minor OR cases.
  • Provide inpatient care including daily rounds on patients.
  • Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by medical or hospital staff.
  • Maintain a private office for elective consultations and visits.
  • Teaching responsibilities for residents, medical students, and others as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs.
  • Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
  • Participate in the on-call rota of the Division of General Surgery.
  • Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Chief of the Department of Surgery, the Chief of Staff, Medical Director and/or Vice President of Medical Affairs.

Who you are

  • Must be eligible for license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
  • Must be eligible for membership with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
  • Must be eligible for malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or equivalent, appropriate to the category of practice.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Good attendance and work record.
