Controller - Targett's Castle Building Supplies
Fredericton, NB | In-office, Full-time (Mon-Fri, 8:00-5:00)
Reports to: COO (Senior Leadership)

This isn't a "keep-your-head-down-and-crank-out-JEs" accounting job. If you get genuine satisfaction from a clean month-end, feel mildly irritated by messy reconciliations, and actually enjoy explaining what the numbers are telling us-you're probably our kind of person.

Targett's is a growing building supplies business with deep local roots and a reputation for doing what we say we're going to do. We're looking for a hands-on Controller who wants real ownership and real influence.

This role is for someone who:

• Has owned month-end close from start to finish (and survived it)
• Understands how strong financials support real-world operational decisions
• Likes building structure, tightening processes, and leaving things better than they found them

What You'll Actually Be Responsible For
(Short version: the financial backbone of the business.)

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
You will be the guardian of clean, reliable numbers.

• Own the full month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
• Prepare accurate, timely, decision-ready monthly financial statements
• Provide clear variance analysis and commentary leadership can actually use
• Keep financial data clean, defensible, and well-explained

Budgeting, Forecasting & Insight
You'll help leadership see around corners.

• Lead the annual budgeting process
• Build and maintain forecasts tied to real business drivers
• Translate financial results into clear, practical insights

Controls, Compliance & Risk
You'll help keep the business steady as it grows.

• Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls
• Ensure compliance with HST, payroll, WCB, and accounting standards
• Prepare year-end working papers and work with external accountants

Business Partnership
You won't just report the numbers-you'll help explain the story behind them (who doesn't love a good story!?!).

• Act as a financial thought partner to senior leadership
• Monitor and improve key metrics like cash flow, DSO, and DPO
• Support sound, informed decision-making across the business

We're looking to connect with an accountant who holds a CPA designation or is actively working toward one. Ideally, you bring at least five years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller role. That said, we're also open to strong candidates who are currently serving in a Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller position.
