ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services ? Eastern Urban Zone invites expressions of interest for a full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent salaried Pediatric Neurologist at the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre in St. John's, NL. The Janeway provides the only tertiary level of care for children with neurological disorders in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre is a 71-bed tertiary care referral hospital for the province, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUNL). The hospital has a residency program in Pediatrics and the successful candidate will be involved in medical student and resident teaching.

The neurology department has a busy outpatient department and, in conjunction with the rehabilitation department, runs neuromuscular and cerebral palsy clinics. The department has EEG inpatient and outpatient facilities, as well as nursing and secretarial support. Responsibilities include clinical and teaching duties related to neurology, clinical research, and shared duties with the other Pediatric Neurologist.

Through strong formal affiliations with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair, the successful candidate may be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment in the Academic Department of Pediatrics and may be expected to participate in collaborative research activities and scholarship.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pediatric Neurology (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Eligible for membership of the medical staff of NL Health Services
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive pediatric neurology services in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Run outpatient neurology clinics including neuromuscular and cerebral palsy clinics in collaboration with the rehabilitation department
  • Perform and interpret EEG studies ? inpatient and outpatient
  • Share clinical and on-call duties with the other Pediatric Neurologist
  • Participate in medical student and resident teaching through the MUNL affiliation
  • Contribute to clinical research and scholarly activities
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Starting salary will be based on years of clinical experience.
