Colpitts Developments is a family-founded, privately held real estate development and construction company with deep roots in Fredericton and a history spanning more than 30 years. Over that time, the organization has grown steadily into a fully integrated operation, delivering a broad range of residential, multi-residential, and commercial projects and maintaining a substantial portfolio of properties that it designs, builds, and manages long term.
Meridia is proud to partner with Colpitts Developments in their search for an Architectural Technologist/Designer to join their growing, in-house design team based in Fredericton.
About Colpitts Developments
Colpitts Developments maintains an extensive portfolio of multi-residential, single-family residential, and commercial projects, located within the rapidly growing Greater Fredericton area. What distinguishes Colpitts in the local market is its fully integrated approach, managing every stage of the project lifecycle internally, from land acquisition and site servicing through design, permitting, construction, and long-term property management.
Role Description
The Architectural Technologist/Designer plays a key role in delivering projects from early concept through construction within Colpitts' integrated design and build environment. In this role, you'll work closely with senior leadership, internal project managers, and consultants to develop practical, buildable designs across a diverse range of residential, multi-residential, and commercial projects.
Unlike a traditional drafting role, this position carries a high level of design responsibility and autonomy. The Architectural Technologist/Designer will be expected to apply sound design judgement, strong technical knowledge, and building code expertise while contributing creatively throughout the project lifecycle.
Your work will span concept design, site planning, permit and construction documentation, and construction coordination, ensuring quality, consistency, and feasibility at every stage.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing architectural drawings and design packages from concept through construction.
- Preparing permit-ready and construction-ready drawing sets for residential and multi-residential projects.
- Applying and interpreting building code requirements and relevant bylaws.
- Contributing to site planning, land-use layouts, and massing studies.
- Coordinating architectural design with structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil consultants.
- Conducting site visits to verify conditions and support design accuracy.
- Creating 2D and 3D drawings, models, and visualizations as required.
- Collaborating closely with internal construction and project management teams during active builds.
- Managing multiple projects while maintaining design intent, quality, and schedules.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings a balance of technical strength, design judgment, and practical construction knowledge.
Your qualifications include:
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in an architectural design or technologist role.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes; Part 3 requirements in particular.
- Experience with residential and multi-residential projects.
- Proficiency with CAD-based design software.
- Ability to independently develop accurate, buildable design solutions from concept through construction.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, in-office team environment.
Additional Assets
- Prior experience using Vectorworks, and/or openness to learn.
- Site planning and land development exposure.
- 3D modeling and rendering experience.
- Understanding of construction sequencing and coordination.
