­Key Responsibilities:

As a Settlements Analyst, you will be responsible for ensuring that the financial obligations set out in contracts are fulfilled through the generation of accurate and timely purchases and sales from/to our counterparties. This position reports to the Senior Supervisor of Accounting and Budgeting and works closely with traders and schedulers within the Energy Marketing line of business. You will be the liaison between the finance team and traders, schedulers, risk management, credit teams and counterparties to identify and resolve various issues that impact settlement and data accuracy within time constraints. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and developing an array of reports and data to ensure that accounts are accurately maintained.

­Other responsibilities are as follows:

  • Ensure the accurate settlement of physical and financial transactions;
  • Perform weekly and monthly checkouts with counterparties, as required;
  • Analyze data for trends and anomalies;
  • Assist in resolving deal capture system issues to eliminate inconsistencies;
  • Ensure counterparty invoices and remittance statements are generated, validated and submitted for timely settlement;
  • Interact with traders, scheduling and counterparties to resolve invoice discrepancies. Identify issues, recommend and implement solutions;
  • Investigate any discrepancies noted with market settlements and follow through with the dispute resolution process as required;
  • Prepare monthly subsidiary billings and associated entries, ensuring information is reconciled and provided timely;
  • Develop, document, and/or maintain procedures for related activities, and modify procedures as required to improve efficiency and controls;
  • Assist with coordination of audit requests and help ensure adherence to governance frameworks;
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and reports as dictated by business needs;
  • Support finance with monthly reporting and energy reconciliations.

­What We're Looking For:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members of various teams;
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities.

­What You'll Need:

You have a Bachelor's degree in business or economics or an equivalent combination of education and experience with an accounting or finance background and a strong knowledge and understanding of general ledger coding and accounting. Energy market experience is considered an asset. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with a focus on teamwork, deadlines, research and problem solving are required. You must be proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel functionalities and be comfortable navigating and learning new software.
