Physical Rehabilitation Technicians (2 POSITIONS)

East Cumberland Lodge (ECL) is a 74-bed licensed long-term care home in rural Nova Scotia (population ECL has made significant investments in digital technologies to enhance resident care and organizational efficiency. This includes a modern call bell and communications system, PointClickCare electronic health records for integrated charting, and dedicated IT support. These tools improve safety, communication, and access to real-time resident information, ensuring high-quality, responsive care.
Position Overview:
We are currently seeking two enthusiastic, organized Physical Rehabilitation Technicians to join our team as Canada Summer Jobs students. This role focuses on promoting healthy ageing and supporting residents with physical or cognitive impairments, injuries, or disabilities. They will assist physiotherapists and occupational therapists in providing therapeutic interventions to help residents improve their functional abilities and achieve their mobility goals. They will learn to use technology such as PointClickCare, a Healthcare software that integrates care provided to residents into a single online system, and to search for evidence-based practices online. The ideal candidate will have a background or strong interest in rehabilitation, health, health promotion, or human movement fields, such as kinesiology or human kinetics, as well as in technology.
Start and End Dates: May 11, 2026, to August 28, 2026 (16 weeks)
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting physiotherapists and/or occupational therapists to work with older adults with physical, cognitive, or sensory impairments in therapeutic interventions to help improve their functional abilities.
- Understanding of safe body mechanics, mobility assistance, and therapeutic exercises and how to support strength, balance, endurance and functional independence.
- Comfort in learning clinical software such as PointClickCare and the ability to use computers/tablets to document information or show information to residents.
- Demonstrate therapeutic communication and person-centred care both in person and online (PointClickCare).
- Assist the Rehabilitation Assistant with organizing paperwork for Red Cross equipment (both paper and digital).
- Ability to search for online evidence-based practices related to rehabilitation and mobility for older adults.
- Monitor the condition of the rehabilitation equipment and draft quotes from vendors for any new equipment.
- Ability to work alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation assistants, nursing staff, recreation staff, and residents.
- Ensure activities are inclusive, accessible, and meet the diverse needs of residents.
- Build rapport through active listening and maintain resident confidentiality, dignity, and autonomy in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in rehabilitation, health, social sciences, or a related field.
- Willingness to learn and confidently operate new technologies such as PointClickCare.
- Experience in the provision of resident care is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience working or volunteering with older adults, people with disabilities, or in community programming.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors.
- Must be physically and mentally able to perform job duties.
- Provision of a valid and current Vulnerable Sector Check.
