The Franchise Management Group of Companies (FMI) is one of the largest restaurant franchisees in North America. We currently own and operate more than 400 Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, Burger King, and Panera Bread locations across 20 different provinces and states. With presence in all 10 provinces and 11 states, FMI is proud to employ over 6,500 people. All operations are administered from our Support Center in Woodstock, New Brunswick.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of financial performance to the restaurant operations teams, to management and to external parties, ensuring financial statements are prepared in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises. As well, the Accounting Manager is responsible for leading a team of direct and indirect reports by coaching and developing people, while also improving efficiencies in accounting processes and managing the workflow of the group. This role has growth potential into higher leadership roles in Finance.
- Team development, spending time one-on-one and group coaching sessions
- Oversee and coordinate the timing of period, quarter and year-end reporting for multiple companies
- Preparation and thorough review of financial reports for the restaurants, including Balance Sheet schedules, Profit & Loss (P&L) statements and other financial reports, to ensure accounting controls and processes are followed
- Responsible for managing Sage 300 & Blackline, including new store and GL account setup, completing year end close and creating new fiscal calendars
- Prepare audit working papers for year-end and coordinate with auditors
- Monitor and improve efficiencies and effectiveness of accounting processes
- Involvement in planning and onboarding for newly acquired markets
- Review current processes & bring automation if possible.
- Supervise & review sales tax filling in Canada & US.
- Approve Account Reconciliations on the Blackline on a periodic basis.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by the Controller.
- Post-secondary education in accounting or finance
- Minimum 3 years experience in a senior finance position
- Solid knowledge of accounting principles
- Able to lead and coach direct reports, with prior managerial experience preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Great at problem solving, with an ability to think outside the box
- Strong knowledge and capabilities in spreadsheets
- CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA program is considered an asset
