Pay Rate: $24.99/hr

Hours: Mon–Fri, rotating shifts (0700–1500 / 1500–2300)

Site Description

The Law Society of Ontario (LSO) regulates lawyers and paralegals in Ontario. Founded in 1797 as the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and administer on-site guards while performing other assigned duties
  • Work closely with LSO staff and take direction from management and the CSM
  • Provide ongoing support to staff on security-related issues
  • Respond to calls for service and security incidents; perform operational duties as assigned
  • Set individual and team objectives and ensure consistent achievement
  • Monitor day-to-day staff performance
  • Attend required staff meetings
  • Test guard staff quarterly using Post Orders or other approved materials
  • Train security staff; ensure training checklists are completed and submitted
  • Maintain and organize training, application, disciplinary, and license records; provide upon request
  • Notify the Site Supervisor of issues impacting service or staff performance
  • Review logs and guard tour patrol reports daily; provide summaries as required
  • Conduct and document audits of radios, keys, Guard Tour devices, CCTV, storage, and computer systems
  • Ensure accurate incident reports are completed before shift end
  • Supervise and respond to major incidents; conduct debriefs and recommend improvements
  • Ensure daily patrol schedules are followed and posts are not abandoned
  • Protect the safety of persons and their belongings on LSO property
  • Prevent and minimize fire, theft, vandalism, criminal damage, and trespass
  • Enforce parking, including tagging/towing unauthorized vehicles and calling contractors for snow removal
  • Perform minor parking gate access repairs and unjamming as required
  • Restrict entry to secure areas to authorized persons only
  • Conduct interior and exterior patrols; document conditions, safety concerns, and weather
  • Enforce LSO smoke-free property policies
  • Monitor security consoles (access control, secure elevators, CCTV)
  • Verify visitor and employee identification
  • Respond to alarms
  • Complete incident reports, logs, and daily operating reports
  • Issue and control access cards and keys for staff, contractors and visitors
  • Lock and unlock doors as scheduled or required
  • Report unusual incidents or hazardous conditions
  • Maintain a log of security incidents and report occurrences
  • Manage lost and found and property safekeeping
  • Provide safety escorts to emergency contractors when required
  • Immediately advise LSO staff of notifiable incidents
  • Assist with managing aggressive visitors (verbal and physical)
  • Attend and respond to any event posing a security risk while providing strong customer service
  • Assist in preventing illicit substances or weapons; secure items and await TPS as instructed
  • Document events in notebooks or electronic incident reports
  • Sit, stand, patrol for extended periods
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in security or equivalent
  • Minimum 3–5 years of security experience
  • Valid Ontario Security Guard License
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C (WSIB-approved)
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (minimum 2 doses)
  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
  • Willing to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check
