WorkSafeNB is looking to hire a Business Intelligence Summer Student to support the Business Information Services (BIS) team within Corporate Strategy and Planning. You will work closely with Business Intelligence Analysts and take day to day direction from senior team members, while receiving guidance and support from the broader BIS team.
In this role, you will support data analysis, reporting, and data quality activities that enable data driven decision making across the organization. You will gain hands on experience working with real operational and corporate data, learning how data is transformed into information used by leaders to understand performance, trends, and outcomes.

Salary and Hours of Work:

Hours of work are those required to perform the assigned tasks but shall not be less than 35 hours per week.
Hourly Rates for Students:

  • High school completed $16.40.
  • 1 year of post-secondary completed $16.90.
  • 2 years of post-secondary completed $17.40.
  • 3 years of post-secondary completed $17.90.
  • 4 years of post-secondary completed $18.40.
Responsibilities
  • Supporting Business Intelligence Analysts with data collection, validation, and basic analysis.
  • Assisting with the preparation of dashboards, reports, and data summaries for internal stakeholders.
  • Working with team members to understand business questions and translate them into data requirements.
  • Performing basic data exploration and trend analysis using tools such as Excel and Power BI.
  • Documenting data sources, definitions, and observations to support data governance and data quality efforts.
  • Creating clear and concise summaries of findings to support decision making.
Qualifications
  • Must be a high school graduate and currently enrolled in a post secondary program in data analytics, computer science, information systems, business, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • An interest in working with data, numbers, and patterns to solve real world business problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn new tools and concepts.
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, or Power BI is considered an asset, but not required.

Organization

WorkSafeNB administers no-fault workplace accident and disability insurance for employers and their workers, funded solely through assessments on employers. All employers having three or more workers are obligated to obtain compensation coverage.

WorkSafeNB is committed to preventing workplace injuries and illness through education and enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

WorkSafeNB is administered by a board of directors consisting of the chairperson, a vice-chairperson, the president and CEO (non-voting member), the chairperson of the Appeals Tribunal (non-voting member), five members representing workers, and five members representing employers. Assessments are affected by the level of activities in the province's workplaces, as are the resulting claims. There are also substantial assets that ensure WorkSafeNB will be able to provide the ongoing benefits promised to injured workers through a wage loss recovery insurance system. These funds are invested in the financial markets and investment returns are subject to the ups and downs of the marketplace.
