The Senior Analyst scrutinizes and evaluates FINTRAC regulatory reporting with a focus on analytical procedures for effective reporting. Guided by Bank policy, the role receives direct supervision from the Senior Manager. Within a well-defined task, the Senior Analyst is expected to function independently while ensuring that management is kept informed and that problems and issues are escalated appropriately.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Deliver technically robust, consolidated, and annotated AML regulatory reporting to senior management for FINTRAC compliance under Canadian legislation, with deep subject matter expertise in Large Cash Transaction Reports (LCTR) and Electronic Funds Transfer Reports (EFTR), including data lineage, reporting thresholds, timeliness, and data quality considerations.
- Perform risk-based analysis to identify unacceptable AML/ATF risks arising from data, system, or process gaps, and escalate issues through appropriate governance channels with clear technical evidence and impact assessment.
- Proactively identify, track, and communicate system defects, data anomalies, and analytical gaps impacting regulatory reporting accuracy and completeness, and actively participate in remediation and enhancement initiatives through the full delivery lifecycle.
- Design, develop, and maintain analytical tools and automated reporting solutions using advanced Excel, SQL, Python, and enterprise BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to support FINTRAC regulatory reporting, monitoring, reconciliation, and exception management.
- Contribute to the development of detailed business and technical requirements, support user acceptance testing (UAT) of AML front-end systems and detective controls and validate system outputs against regulatory specifications and expected reporting logic.
- Support operational implementation by developing technical job aids, data workflows, control documentation, and communication materials; assist with conversion and implementation strategies; provide training to stakeholders; and deliver post-implementation support to ensure stability and compliance.
- Support and continuously enhance AML regulatory reporting initiatives through ad hoc data analysis, efficiency and effectiveness monitoring, root cause analysis of reporting issues, and critical assessment of end-to-end processes informed by data and stakeholder feedback.
- Prepare and validate audit and regulatory review documentation, including data extracts, control evidence, reconciliations, and technical explanations of reporting logic and system behavior.
- Apply the Bank's risk appetite, risk culture, and control expectations in day-to-day technical and analytical decisions, ensuring alignment with AML/ATF regulatory obligations and enterprise risk management principles.
- Actively drive effective and efficient operations within the AML regulatory reporting function by ensuring the design, execution, and ongoing effectiveness of business controls addressing operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, in accordance with the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, Enterprise AML/ATF Global Handbook, and Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:
- A recognized undergraduate degree in a technical discipline (Information Technology, Finance, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field) or a minimum of one year of related experience
- A proven ability to critically assess, prioritize tasks, and deliver meaningful results in a fast-paced environment
- Basic knowledge of operational processes, including best practices, current and anticipated regulatory requirements, back-office processes, and end-to-end workflows between the front and back offices
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to exercise diplomacy and judgment to effectively work with end users, project team members, and stakeholders across the global organization
- Proficiency in querying using database management software (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle, MySQL)
- Proficiency in advanced functions in Microsoft Excel, such as VLOOKUP, nested IFs, SUMIFs, and fuzzy logic
- Proficiency with languages and tools, including Python and VBA
- Proficiency with data analytics and visualization/case management software (e.g., Tableau, eazyBI)
- Working knowledge of XML is an asset
- Proven ability to effectively analyze large amounts of transactional and case management data
- Proven creative, self-starter, results-oriented, and highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills, able to apply this knowledge to improve existing solutions and assist in the development of AML/ATF strategies
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, particularly with respect to FINTRAC regulatory reporting (including LCTR/EFTR)
- Experience with SWIFT EFT, Non-SWIFT EFT, and LCTR reporting (e.g., MT 103 messages)
What's in it for you?
- Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
- The opportunity to join a forward-thinking organization where you are surrounded by a collaborative team of innovative thinkers.
- A competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits plan.
- An organization committed to making a difference in our communities - for you and our customers.
