Ivy Meadows in Sackville, Nova Scotia is hiring and currently accepting applications for Cook to join the team.
Department: Food Service
Responsible to: Trish MacArthur
Effective: May 1st 2026
Hours of Work: 32 Hours biweekly ( 8 hour shifts )
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent of Grade 12
- Diploma of Culinary Arts or Equivalent
- Basic/Advanced Food Safety Certification
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs at a time, in good general health and able to endure the day-to-day pressure of the position
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis according to the Northwood Corporate Standards.
- Comfortable using email, Word and Excel
Responsibilities:
- Prepares acceptable qualify food products to be served to residents, special functions, special occasions and ancillary meal services according to established standards including Food Safety Standards, standardized recipes, established house menus, cook/chill/freeze recipes, quotas, HACCP principals, and sanitation procedures ensuring optimun nutrition and presentation
- Participates and has input in menu development
- Prepares residents meals according to established standards including cook/chill/freeze menu concept, special instructions, recipes, volumes, temperature, food safety, use of garnishes or condiments to ensure optimum nutrition and presentation
- Performs established procedures for stock control, prepared food packaging and rotation using HACCP principles
- Maintains a high level of personal hygiene and sanitation in the work area
- Responds to and accommodates request from various areas of the facility regarding food service/production via telephone or electronic communications and responds appropriately providing additional servings/specials, and other related requests as needed
- Performs proper operation, safety, cleaning and sanitation procedures ( applying WHMIS training) with all equipment and also in work area
- Prepares foods for ancillary meal services Assisted Living, Enriched Meal Progra, Adult Day Care, Community Centre; Meals on Wheels, special occasions and special function services
- Assists with and performs other related duties as may be requested
- Ensures workplaces are organized and appropriately set up for work
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
