Economic Development Officer / Town Planner

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Economic Development Officer / Town Planner supports strategic growth initiatives, coordinates municipal planning and development activities, supports GIS applications, administers the Tourism Accommodation Levy program, and advances projects that enhance community sustainability and economic opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning & Development
  • Coordinate municipal planning initiatives and development applications
  • Support Municipal Plan and Development Regulations amendments
  • Assist with subdivision and rezoning processes
  • Liaise with provincial review agencies and consultants
  • Support long-term infrastructure and land-use planning priorities
  • Maintain municipal Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping resources
• Economic Development
  • Support strategic economic initiatives and investment attraction
  • Assist with industrial park land marketing
  • Support business retention and expansion initiatives
  • Coordinate funding applications and proposals
  • Support administration of the Tourism Accommodation Levy
• GIS & Mapping Support
  • Maintain and update GIS mapping layers
  • Support mapping for infrastructure planning and development review
  • Prepare maps for Council reports and planning initiatives
• Project & Policy Support
  • Support strategic planning initiatives
  • Assist with grant writing and project coordination
  • Prepare briefing notes and Council reports
  • Support stakeholder engagement and consultation processes
• Community & Regional Collaboration
  • Build relationships with provincial departments and regional partners
  • Represent the Town at meetings and committees
  • Support tourism and workforce attraction initiatives

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area preferred (Planning, Economic Development, GIS, Geography, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field)
• Experience with municipal governments, planning processes, or economic development initiatives
• GIS experience considered a strong asset
• Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador municipal legislation considered an asset
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence

Position Details

• Position Type: Full-time
• Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
• Location: Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador
