To apply for this program graduation from an accredited academic program in Respiratory Therapy and registered with NL Council of Health Professionals or a Bachelor of Nursing Degree and be registered with the CRNNL.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Anesthesia Assistant is responsible for the provision and management of ventilation life support, invasive and non-invasive physiologic monitoring, and anesthesia assistant practices in the operating room and all facility locations where anesthesia services may be needed. The Anesthesia Assistant assists in the induction, maintenance, emergence and the recovery of the patient during the period of perioperative care
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must apply and meet the school admission requirements for the program on their own merit. Education options, entrance requirements and fees are outlined on the Michener Institute and Thompson River University websites.
Entrance Requirements:
- Proof of professional licensure as an RRT or RN in Canada, AND
For RRTs- Must have graduated from a RRT program within the last year OR
- Must be a graduate from a RRT program and have 2000 hours of work experience within the last 3 years while practicing in critical care areas such as ICU, NICU, PACU, ER.
For RNs
Must be a graduate from a RN program and have 2000 hours of work experience within the last 3 years while practicing in critical care areas such as ICU, NICU, PACU, ER.
- A letter of sponsorship and commitment from an anesthesia department, typically your current place of employment, to deliver the clinical placement; more than one clinical site may be needed to fulfill all required AA program clinical competencies.
- A resumé, detailing your education and clinical care work experience
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Competitive Salary: Earn $50.92 to $55.32 per hour (CG38), plus great health, dental, and pension plan benefits.
Shiftwork: 75 bi-weekly hours; 8 hour shifts
Financial Support:
Financial assistance is available to help offset costs associated with the Anesthesia Assistant program. A return-in-service commitment to work as an Anesthesia Assistant with NL Health Services will be required. The length of the commitment will depend on the total amount of funding provided. The service obligation will begin once the applicant is fully qualified to work in the classification.
