Job Summary

NL Health Services Eastern zone is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent fellowship trained Pediatric Ophthalmologist to assume a full-time clinical practice at the Janeway Children?s Health and Rehabilitation in St. John?s, Newfoundland and Labrador, the province?s centre for specialized Pediatric care. The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2026, though this can be adjusted based on the successful candidate's availability.

The Janeway Children?s Health and Rehabilitation Centre is a 71 bed, tertiary care referral hospital for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Janeway is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUNL) and has a residency program in Pediatrics and the successful candidate will be involved in medical student and resident teaching. The successful candidate would also have an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor with Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The Pediatric Ophthalmology department has the support of Orthoptic services and on-site equipment: OCT, ultrasound, keratometer and RetCam. Fundus photography and visual field testing are available at the Health Sciences Centre in the same hospital complex.

Required Qualifications

Education (Post-Secondary):

  • Must have certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Pediatric Ophthalmology with fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (or equivalent);
  • Must be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Eligible for membership of the medical staff of NL Health Services;
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

Remuneration: Remuneration for the provision of Pediatric Ophthalmology services is through an Alternate Payment Plan Agreement. Weekend call and adult strabismus services are reimbursed by the provincial Medical Care Program.
