POSITION DETAILS
Job Title: Kitchen Support Staff
Location: Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Gagetown, New Brunswick
Start Date: April 30, 2026
End Date: December 7, 2026
Employment Type: Contract / Shift-Based
Number of Positions: 8
Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour
Work Schedule:
- Workdays: Thursday to Monday (5 days per week)
- Shift Duration: 8.5 hours per day (includes 30-minute unpaid break)
- Weekly Hours: Approximately 40 hours
Available Shifts:
- Early Shift: 05:30 AM - 02:00 PM (4 positions)
- Late Shift: 10:30 AM - 07:00 PM (4 positions)
Preference will be given to candidates who can consistently commit to the same shift throughout the contract period.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Kitchen Support Staff will assist with day-to-day food service operations in a high-volume commercial kitchen environment. The role requires maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and teamwork to ensure smooth kitchen operations supporting large-scale meal preparation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist cooks and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks (washing, cutting, portioning ingredients)
- Prepare simple food items as directed by supervisors
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen workstations, equipment, dishes, and utensils
- Support serving and portioning of meals during service periods
- Follow proper food handling and serving etiquette standards
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards, hygiene protocols, and workplace safety guidelines
- Receive, inspect, store, and organize food supplies and kitchen inventory
- Dispose of waste properly and maintain clean garbage and recycling areas
- Assist with dishwashing and cleaning duties as required
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient service delivery
- Follow instructions carefully and complete tasks within assigned timelines
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- English communication skills (required for safety and teamwork)
- Valid CPIC (Criminal Record Check) required before start date
- Food Handler Certification (required)
- Knowledge of proper food serving etiquette
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically active tasks
- Ability to lift light to moderate weight items (boxes, supplies, kitchen items)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
- Strong commitment to hygiene, cleanliness, and safety procedures
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
DRESS CODE / UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
- Black top with sleeves (no tank tops)
- Black pants (no leggings)
- Non-slip, closed-toe footwear (mandatory for safety)
- Clothing must be properly fitted (not loose) to avoid hazards with kitchen equipment
- Uniforms must not be worn to and from the workplace
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in food service, hospitality, cafeteria, or commercial kitchen
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Experience working in high-volume kitchen environments
- Strong teamwork and reliability
