Job Summary
This position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the following category of practice: Adult or Family/All Ages within the Eating Disorders (ED) Continuum. This is an advance practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients including but not limited to health assessments, patient monitoring, and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, and conditions. This position will help identify learning needs of patients/clients, families, nurses, and others and provide group education regarding ED treatment/conditions based on research and best practice.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions within a collaborative, interprofessional team to provide comprehensive care to adults (18 years and older) experiencing eating disorders. This role spans the full continuum of services, including inpatient and outpatient care. The NP promotes patient-centered, evidence-based practice aligned with the principles of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented approaches.
This is an advanced nursing position that involves the planning and provision of both generalized and advanced nursing services. The NP will provide comprehensive care to clients and patients using principles of primary health care within a health promotion, population health and self-help framework. In the provision of comprehensive health care services, the NP collaborates with an interdisciplinary heath care team, including community/hospital physicians and psychiatrists. Eating Disorders is a clinical specialty area and this role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in the treatment and management of Eating Disorders. This role will involve working closely with the Eating Disorders Psychiatrist and team. It requires flexibility, readiness to learn and problem-solving skills. Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, and supplies.
Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of NL and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner Adult or Family/All Ages with the CRNNL.
A minimum of five years' clinical experience within the last seven in mental health and/or addictions is required.
Current BLS Certification is required.
Possess strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork.
Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills.
Demonstrated strong communication, problem solving, decision-making, and teaching skills.
Ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role.
Ability to support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes.
Ability to support and participate in research, and evaluation initiatives to improve clinical practice, quality of care and client outcomes (This may include committee/working group participation).
Demonstrated skills in computer and database management.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
