The Department of Finance and Treasury Board (FTB) provides strategic leadership to ensure the financial sustainability, accountability, and effective stewardship of public resources for the Government of New Brunswick (GNB).

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is responsible for government-wide leadership, strategy, and oversight of information management, information technology, cyber security, privacy, and digital enablement. The OCIO plays a critical role in enabling modern, secure, and citizen-centred government services across all departments and agencies.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) provides enterprise leadership for the governance, strategy, and delivery of information and technology services across the Government of New Brunswick. The CIO ensures that digital, technology, cyber security, privacy, and information management capabilities are aligned with government priorities, enable effective service delivery, manage risk, and support the long-term sustainability and modernization of public services.

Roles and Responsibilities

As the Chief Information Officer of the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) you will help shape the province's information and technology services across the Government of New Brunswick. This is an influential position that requires sound judgement, strategic insight, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a complex, fast-moving environment. You will be relied upon to provide government with trusted advice rooted in rigorous analysis, strong information and technological stewardship, and collaborative leadership across departments and with external partners.

A typical day may include one or more of the following tasks:

  • Providing strategic leadership in Digital New Brunswick Strategy governance.
  • Overseeing GNB Digital New Brunswick projects and initiatives.
  • Ensuring Enterprise Architecture supports enterprise and related business strategies.
  • Responsible for Right to Information and Protection of Privacy legislation.
  • Work to enhance rural cellular and broadband coverage across New Brunswick
  • Identification and management of opportunities and risks associated with digital transformation initiatives.
  • Monitoring and managing progress and areas of concern of transformational projects and initiatives to support a common digital vision and mandate across all partners; and
  • Establishing and maintaining links and partnerships with senior executives across Parts I - IV, the public, and industry, to forward the Digital NB Strategy.
  • Representing the Province of New Brunswick on Provincial, Federal and Territorial committees.
  • Responsibility for the management and operations of the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick.
  • Providing hands-on leadership across the Division; advising elected and senior officials; advancing strategic government files; presenting legislative proposals; participating on senior-level committees and boards; and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Educational Qualifications and Experiences:

  • A university degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience, including significant experience at a senior executive or assistant deputy minister–equivalent level.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complex organizations or enterprise-wide portfolios with responsibility for people, budgets, and strategic outcomes.
  • Proven success delivering government-wide or organization-wide transformation initiatives.
  • Experience providing strategic advice to deputy ministers, executive councils, boards, or equivalent senior decision?making bodies.
  • Eligible for Canadian federal security clearance.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments.
  • Cyber security, privacy, or information management governance at an enterprise level.
  • Oversight of large capital investment portfolios and shared services.
  • Intergovernmental, national, or cross-jurisdictional collaboration.
  • Leading digital government or enterprise modernization initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical, risk, and investment matters into clear, concise, and actionable advice for senior executives, elected officials, and diverse stakeholders.

Salary: Pay Band 12 - $150,098 to $165,178 annually
