Job Description
What is the opportunity?
As an Associate embedded in the COO Office, you will support and drive competitive advantage across RBC Capital Markets by translating strategy into operational execution and measurable outcomes. Your mandate bridges three critical pillars: strategy and narrative, operational efficiency and fiscal discipline, and organizational capability building. You will serve as a key executor within the COO Group, ensuring productivity initiatives and organizational alignment deliver tangible business results.
This role demands an executor-analyst profile: someone who combines deep analytical rigor with the ability to synthesize complexity into clear, compelling deliverables for senior audiences. You will work at the intersection of Productivity & Efficiency (P&E) and Business Management within the COO Office, taking independent ownership of specific workstreams while supporting the broader team in orchestrating COO Group priorities. This role is equivalent to a Manager or Senior Manager level and is not a Finance role.
What will you do?
As a key contributor to the P&E and Business Management agenda, you will own workstream execution and support the strategic and operational priorities that connect strategy to outcomes:
Strategy and narrative support - You will support the translation of the P&E productivity agenda and Capital Markets strategic priorities into compelling, data-driven narratives for stakeholders. This includes building presentations, strategy documents, and analyses that articulate the "why" behind transformation - how it creates competitive advantage, enables growth investment, and sustains market positioning. You will own specific deliverables and presentation materials that make transformation tangible and urgent for executive audiences.
Fiscal planning, measurement, and rigor - You will drive zero-based cost transparency analyses across Capital Markets functions, supporting the establishment of true cost baselines for each business line. You will support fiscal planning cycles, integrate P&E initiatives into financial tracking, and ensure productivity gains are measured and validated. You will build and maintain dashboards that track ROI, program health, and efficiency benefits realization, giving leaders confidence in their cost base and strategic decisions.
Cross-functional coordination and project execution - You will manage workstreams end-to-end, ensuring delivery to time and quality standards. You will coordinate across business units and functions to manage dependencies, maintain project artifacts, and embed governance rigor into program execution. You will identify risks and escalate appropriately, and support trade-off decisions when priorities compete for resources or attention.
Stakeholder engagement and capability building - You will build and maintain relationships with business and function partners, serving as a reliable point of contact for workstream updates and coordination. You will support organizational change efforts, ensuring communication is clear and change is supported with appropriate resources. You will contribute to embedding efficiency thinking into business planning and performance management, helping strengthen the COO Office's reporting rhythms and strategic storytelling.
AI value capture and productivity enablement - Lead efforts to quantify and capture value from AI tools (including Aiden), build frameworks to measure productivity gains and time savings, partner with AI & Digital team on high-impact use cases, drive adoption, and ensure AI-related savings are validated and incorporated into P&E benefits tracking.
Organizational design support - Supports spans/layers analysis, maintains mandate documentation, assists with workforce planning data, helps prepare org design recommendations
Performance planning support - Maintains OKR tracking, prepares performance review materials, coordinates talent discussion logistics, builds scorecards
Employee engagement execution - Coordinates Town Halls/newsletters, maintains engagement calendars, tracks engagement metrics, supports change communications
What you need to succeed?Must-haves
Proven strategic communication ability. You must be able to write and present for senior and executive audiences, taking complex transformation and efficiency analyses and distilling them into clear, compelling narratives. This is not just about polishing slides; it is about shaping how leaders understand and act on strategic priorities through precise writing and verbal clarity.
3–5 years of progressive experience in strategy, transformation, operations, or management consulting in financial services, capital markets, or comparable complex environments. You have contributed to or shaped transformation programs or efficiency initiatives, from design through execution and benefits realization.
Exceptional critical thinking, judgment, and ability to navigate ambiguity. You can work through incomplete information, make sound recommendations, and build alignment across competing interests without sacrificing analytical rigor.
Strong financial acumen with understanding of P&L drivers, capital efficiency metrics (ROE, NIBT, NIE), and how efficiency initiatives cascade into business outcomes. Familiarity with zero-based budgeting frameworks and financial planning and analysis.
Project management expertise - Proven ability to manage workstreams to time and quality, identify and mitigate risks, and maintain accountability across organizational boundaries.
Technical mastery in Excel, Tableau, and PowerPoint. Exceptional storyboarding and data visualization skills, with the ability to build dashboards and presentations that translate quantitative insights into narrative and strategic direction.
AI and automation fluency - Strong understanding of how generative AI and automation tools can drive productivity in financial services; experience quantifying AI value capture or building business cases for AI-enabled transformation; comfort using AI tools to enhance personal and team productivity.
Self-starter comfortable working independently in fast-paced, high-complexity environments with tight deadlines, while also collaborating effectively with the team when needed.
