The Senior Travel Health & Disability Management Advisor provides health clearance approvals, guidance, and support to personnel, ensuring their health and wellbeing during domestic and international travel for CRC operations, while advising on and coordinating CRC's disability management processes. The role assesses health risks associated with travel destinations, provides education and information on required vaccinations and preventive measures, and advises on the management of health-related situations that may arise during travel. In addition, the Senior Advisor collaborates with service providers and CRC personnel to support disability and absence management, including workers' compensation and return-to-work coordination.

In this role, you will :

  • Evaluate health risks and preventative measures associated with travel destinations.
  • Support program development, implementation and training for health promotion, illness prevention and wellbeing personnel.
  • Collaborate with teams to facilitate accessibility of medical services related to medical clearance requirements (i.e. vaccines, medical tests, etc.).
  • Initiate medical clearance process for travel of personnel including conducting health risk assessments related to the location of travel and personal health of workers and identifying and validating the receipt of required immunizations and vaccines.
  • Provide tailored advice to personnel in compliance with relevant health regulations and guidelines, ensuring personnel are educated on potential travel health hazards, safe practices, and how to manage health conditions while traveling.
  • Provide guidance and assist personnel in international medical emergencies, while coordinating with both the insurance provider, third-party travel insurance provider, and the healthcare professionals involved in the management of the case.
  • Provide and update available information on local accessible healthcare facilities and potential healthcare facilities for medical evacuation outside of the country.
  • For travel health purposes only, liaise with the individual and their physician (and other healthcare providers) as needed and seeking out expert advice in complex cases.
  • Work with CRC personnel, managers and service providers to advise on and coordinate disability management cases, including absence management, workers' compensation, workplace accommodations, health clearances, respirator fit testing requirements, and return-to-work activities.
  • Coordinate workplace accommodation planning and ergonomic assessments, ensuring personnel receive appropriate equipment or supports aligned with their functional abilities and medical restrictions.
  • Monitor and report on accommodations, leaves of absence, return-to-work outcomes, and disability management trends, identifying opportunities to improve programs, policies, or supports.
  • Prepare documents, tools, communications reports and presentations for management and/or other stakeholders in relation to travel health and disability management.
  • Collaborate with Senior PS Advisors, managers, and external partners to ensure timely and effective disability case management and support employee wellbeing.
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained and kept confidential in systems and files.
  • Understand, stay current on, and research relevant legislation, Travel Health and disability management guidelines and best practices, to inform decisions and contribute to updating of policies, processes, and standards
  • Provide on-call travel health support to operations if activated at the operations request.

What we are looking for :

  • Qualifications include a minimum of 6-9 years experience as a registered nurse working with adult populations and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in nursing, public health, healthcare administration, occupational health and safety, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).(L6)
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and experience with HR systems.
  • Experience evaluating health risks associated with travel destinations.
  • Experience in immunization protocols and preventive health measures.
  • Experience in travel health, occupational health, or disability management, including workplace accommodation and return-to-work planning.
  • Knowledge of disability management principles, workers' compensation processes, and workplace accommodation practices.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, analyze interrelated factors, assess and mitigate risks, and develop solutions using specialized skills.
  • Communication and influence skills to gather perspectives, understand needs, and present information to reach consensus, often in somewhat sensitive situations.
  • Ability to communicate and sensitive and contentious situations with empathy and tact.
