As part of the Security team, the Security Specialists must conduct themselves with the utmost integrity, honesty, confidentiality, transparency, and accountability, aligning with the NB Power Values. This position exists to protect our staff and infrastructure from theft or harm as best as possible. Our role is to ensure the infrastructure, processes, and policies are all in place to ensure an in-depth approach to defence and deterrence. We must ensure adequate resources for a timely response to security-related incidents.
Key functions include:
- The Security Specialist supports daily security operations, including managing case files and investigations related to security incidents and breaches, documents all security events and takes appropriate action on threat and risk assessments, investigations, and equipment failures within their area of responsibility, in accordance with the Corporate Security Guide. The Security Specialist acts as the liaison with provincial emergency personnel (e.g., city police, RCMP, military, NBEMO etc.).
- This role assists with physical security compliance on our Critical Infrastructure Protection / North American Electric Reliability Corporation (CIP/NERC) by tracking, reporting and maintaining required records (e.g., background checks, contacts, biometric databases) on CIP / NERC or similar physical security compliance requirements. Supports audits, attends monthly CIP meetings, recommending necessary improvements to infrastructure and/or procedures. Maintains statistics and trend analyses to identify risks and recommend strategies to prevent recurrence. Supports the administration of security processes in accordance with NB Power's Loss Control Model and contributes to the development and implementation of internal Security Policies, Standards, and Procedures to ensure requirements are applied by management, employees, contractors, and the public.
- The Security Specialist oversees security infrastructure and program administration by ensuring operation and maintenance of surveillance, access control, intrusion detection equipment and related systems. They coordinate troubleshooting activities regarding security-related equipment failures with contractor partners and internal NB Power teams. Supports operational and capital improvements to physical security infrastructure, including oversight of fences and gates, intrusion detection systems, surveillance systems, access control, locks, and related equipment.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- A bachelor's degree or diploma relevant to Physical Security Management or equivalent. Candidates with a diploma will require two additional years of relevant experience
- Six years of combined experience protecting critical infrastructure
- Experience conducting threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments
- Experience overseeing critical infrastructure within security or facilities operations, including technical knowledge of access control, surveillance, and intrusion detection systems (e.g.,
- Axiom, WinPak, Avigilon, ECAM, Caliber Solutions, Genetec, Milestone, Reconyx, Vosker)
- Physical Security Professional certification through ASIS International (or eligible to attain post-hiring as a condition of employment to reach top step of the salary grade)
- North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) certification would be considered an asset
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
