Job Details:
The City of Fredericton is accepting applications for the position of Development Engineer in the Engineering & Operations Department. The City of Fredericton is one of the fastest growing cities in Atlantic Canada and this role is key to providing municipal support and coordination to enable that growth.
This role works within a team of engineers and technicians with expertise in municipal infrastructure design, storm water management, infrastructure planning, project management, and transportation system management.
The role reports to the Assistant Director of Engineering & Operations and collaborates with design consultants, operational City staff, engineers, planners, and building inspectors. Additionally, this role works directly with the development community and their consultants on infrastructure inquiries, development requirements, and oversees the transfer of new municipal assets from developers. This role also coordinates with utility companies operating in Fredericton.
This position requires an individual who communicates well, takes initiative and exercises tact, discretion, and sound judgement.
Qualifications Required:
- University degree in Civil Engineering or Geodesy & Geomatics Engineering with a minimum of 3 years experience is required.
- Experience working in a municipality or municipal consulting firm is required.
- Eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGNB.
What You'll Do:
- Works closely with a diverse work group that includes City technical and operational staff to understand and guide processes related to growth and developments in the City.
- Collaborates with staff from the Planning & Development Department on development projects.
- Updates the Municipal Specifications for municipal and private infrastructure development.
- Provides technical comments for the Planning Advisory Committee and regularly attends the municipal Planning Advisory Committee meetings to provide technical advice. May also attend Council Meetings as needed.
- Works with utility companies to coordinate their infrastructure activities within the right of way.
What You'll Bring:
- Ability to work closely with Engineering and Operations staff and the development community to understand and guide processes related to growth and developments within the City of Fredericton.
- Knowledge of storm water management design and principles.
- Understanding of the principles of Project Management with certification in project management considered an asset.
- Ability to lead complex projects from inception to completion using external and internal resources.
- Well developed interpersonal, communication, problem solving and analytical skills are required.
- The ability to collaborate and work within a team environment to accomplish organizational goals.
- Experience in public speaking and/or presentations will be considered an asset.
- Oral competency in both official languages will be considered an asset.
