In this role you will:
- Produce and edit donor impact and philanthropic writing as the primary creative copywriter and editor, supporting donor trust and engagement through clear, emotionally resonant content.
- Deliver compelling donor facing content across multiple formats and channels, including appeals, direct mail, digital, social, landing pages, reports, proposals, and video scripts, adapting content to audience, context and giving stream.
- Partner with the Donor Experience team to support a cohesive, donor centred journey across acquisition, stewardship, and recognition, ensuring a consistency in voice and experience.
- Work collaboratively with Creative Services and cross functional partners to contribute to campaign development and the execution of shared donor facing initiatives.
- Investigate, source, and shape authentic stories through interviews, quotes, and testimonials, staying informed on programs and priorities to ensure accuracy and applying judgment to translate complex or sensitive information into accessible narratives.
- Translate and transcreate content across audiences and giving streams, ensuring cultural relevance, alignment to donor intent, and consistency in voice and experience.
- Offer editorial and storytelling guidance through editing and feedback, and support redcross.ca content planning and optimization in partnership with analytics and channel teams.
- Provide responsive content support during emergency appeals, participating in an on call rotation as required and delivering accurate, high quality content under time sensitive conditions.
What we are looking for:
- Post secondary degree or diploma in Creative Copywriting, Communications, Journalism, Publishing, Marketing, or a related field, with 5-7 years of professional copywriting experience across digital, web, and direct marketing channels.
- Minimum 3+ years of fundraising writing experience, with a demonstrated understanding of donor psychology, donor motivations, and fundraising best practices across acquisition, retention, stewardship, and impact reporting.
- Proven ability to craft compelling, emotionally resonant stories that translate complex humanitarian work into clear, human, donor focused narratives that inspire action across campaigns, appeals, and impact communications.
- Demonstrated ability to translate and transcreate content for diverse audiences and cultural contexts, with strong working knowledge of digital marketing, social media, email, web, and traditional print platforms, including superior writing and editing skills for digital marketing, proposals, reports, and cases for support for different audiences.
- Strong conceptual writing skills, with experience contributing to ideation, brainstorming, and creative execution, and the ability to apply strategic thinking to identify key content development opportunities within the nonprofit and fundraising sector.
- Strong research skills, including the ability to ask the right questions, gather information, and interview internal and external stakeholders; ability to build positive working relationships, communicate effectively, provide and receive constructive feedback, and take direction when needed.
- Comfort working in a high performance, fast paced environment where priorities can shift quickly, managing multiple projects with tight timelines, particularly during emergency response; self motivated, resourceful, and results driven.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and French, with a strong eye for detail and confidence in proofreading materials for accuracy, consistency, and quality; familiarity with UX principles or research is an asset, and bilingualism in French is an asset.
