Join our Team as a Project Engineer - Make a Difference in Our Community!

Project Engineers provide technical review and design, value engineering, project management, consultant management, and financial tracking for municipal projects managed through the Engineering Division. Projects include capital projects, internal development projects, and projects coordinated with external developers.

Project Engineers work collaboratively on project delivery with divisions and departments throughout the City including, but not limited, to Planning, Communications, Real Estate, Recreation Tourism & Culture, H2O, Roadway Operations, Parks & Trees, Transit & Parking, Building Services, Fire, and Police, while also working closely with City Funding, Environmental, and First Nations Relations coordinators. Project Engineers will also work closely with external entities and regulators to advance municipal projects including Business Associations, telecommunications, power, and natural gas utilities, NBDTI, THC, ELG, and NRED.

Overall Project Engineers advance municipal projects that are critical to maintaining and expanding aging and new infrastructure in a quickly changing growing municipal environment.

Qualifications Required:

  • University degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 3 years' experience is required.
  • Eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGANB.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and SharePoint.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with GIS applications and GeoNB.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to speak in both official languages would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff (team player), builders, contractors, consultants, and developers.
  • Knowledge of municipal construction and systems, surveying, plan development, municipal infrastructure, servicing, and engineering design.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions necessary in the area of work assignments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of asset management principals advancement.
  • Valid Class V drivers license.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage the implementation of capital projects assigned to the Engineering Division.
  • Provide technical review and design, value engineering, project management, consultant management, and financial tracking for municipal projects managed through the Engineering Division.
  • Works collaboratively on project delivery with divisions and departments throughout the City including, but not limited, to Planning, Communications, Real Estate, Recreation Tourism & Culture, H2O, Roadway Operations, Parks & Trees, Transit & Parking, Building Services, Fire, and Police.
  • Share project information and respond to public and City Council inquiries. Present to interest groups and City Council on Project details and advancement.

  • Analytical Skills – ability to understand a situation by breaking into smaller pieces and/or tracing the implications in a step-by-step manner.
  • Problem solving abilities – ability to identify issues or problems and develop strategies, ideas, and opportunities for resolving them.
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple competing priorities.
