Health Association Nova Scotia (HANS)

Health Association Nova Scotia (HANS) is a member-based, not-for-profit, non-government association with over 65 years' experience delivering shared services, policy support, advocacy and expertise to a wide range of health and health-related organizations whose mandates positively impact the social determinants of health across Nova Scotia. HANS provides shared services across a number of domains. Our largest core shared service is Group Benefits Solutions. Serving over 50,000 employees and retirees, we are the largest, longest-standing provider of group benefits administration services in Nova Scotia's health system.

Additional services offered to our members at not-for-profit rates include payroll services, shared financial services, labour law and labour relations expertise, human resources solutions, immigration support, technical services and group purchasing.

HANS is also a joint sponsor of the Nova Scotia Health Employees' Pension Plan, one of the largest in Atlantic Canada.

  • Strong communication skills and collaborative approach.

Time Commitment

Directors are expected to attend regular Board meetings and participate on at least one Board committee. Board and committee meetings currently take place every second month. The term of appointment is in accordance with HANS' bylaws and governance policies (typically one year, with eligibility for re-nominations to two and three year terms).
