ABOUT THE ROLE
RKO Steel is hard at work building the foundations that support the growth of our communities. We are seeking a new team member for our Dartmouth, NS location in the role of Senior Estimator. This senior-level position involves managing proposals for large-scale infrastructure and steel fabrication RFPs and tenders, including all aspects related to the fabrication, supply, and erection of structural and miscellaneous metals.
Primary day-to-day duties include reviewing pricing requests, tenders, and design-assist/design-build projects; performing quantity takeoffs; qualifying and finalizing scopes of work; and preparing and submitting proposals. Additional responsibilities may include site visits, improving departmental practices, conducting data analysis and market assessments, providing team support and mentorship, and supporting the Sales & Estimating Manager.
This is a fast-paced role with significant opportunity for growth within one of HRM's most established and well-known steel companies. The ability to work independently is essential while leveraging team support as needed. Strong communication and computer skills are required, and the ideal candidate will be highly analytical. This position offers broad exposure to develop additional skill sets and supports continued professional development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare full cost estimates, material takeoffs, and bid/proposal submissions.
- Analyze drawings and specifications with accuracy and detail.
- Collaborate with project managers to prepare clarifications and change-order pricing.
- Communicate with contractors, clients, and internal teams, including attending site visits.
- Identify value-engineering opportunities and quality improvements.
- Mentor and aid in the development of new team members.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ Years of estimating experience in an engineering environment, fabrication facility preferred.
- Strong ability to read & interpret structural steel & architectural drawings.
- Experience in proposal creation, collaborative design, and value engineering practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational skills, and time-management.
- Strong ability to work independently as well as collaborate in a team environment.
- Secondary (High School) diploma or equivalent.
- Canadian citizenship.
- Personal vehicle.
- Monday-Friday / On-site availability.
VALUE ADDED EXPERIENCE & EXPOSURE
- Experience with Bluebeam, Adobe Pro, CAD, Tekla Structures, or ERP/MRP systems.
- Background in trade or field construction.
- Post-secondary education or related work experience.
- Strong data analysis skills.
