Are you an experienced Hydrogeologist looking to take the next step in your career? We're looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Mount Pearl, NL office.

At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We're a perfect sized employee-owned, 400-person multi-disciplinary consulting firm that is large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

We would love to talk to you if you:

  • Have the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Enjoy contributing as both a team player and a leader and thrive in a collaborative environment
  • Approach your work in an organized and efficient way, with a strong focus on quality outcomes
  • Are an effective communicator, with well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting others—or a strong interest in developing these skills and helping people grow.

A typical day on the job might look like:

  • Provide technical support and oversight to a wide variety of physical hydrogeology projects and prepare proposals and reports in collaboration with other senior staff (including hydrogeological, contaminated sites, geotechnical, surface water, etc.).
  • Design and oversee field investigations such as drilling, coring and test pitting logging; soil and bedrock description and characterization; monitoring well and groundwater/surface water instrumentation installation; single- and multi-well pumping tests; soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water sampling; infiltration rate testing; and private well monitoring.
  • Lead and assist junior and intermediate staff preparing technical proposals and reports, including hydrogeological characterization assessments; impact assessments, groundwater supply and source water protection studies and approvals; quarry, mine pit and construction dewatering assessments and permitting; water balance assessments; and groundwater and surface water interaction and monitoring programs. Provide technical review of hydrogeological deliverables.
  • Provide mentorship and technical coaching to junior technical staff.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients.
  • Provide senior support and leadership within Newfoundland and Labrador operations; may include staff / team lead opportunities.
  • Engage with our senior leaders in the Atlantic and Ontario business, providing input, developing and leading strategic initiatives.

The good stuff you get:

  • Fair pay plus extra: competitive salary with year-end profit-sharing bonus.
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc.
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions.
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it.
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year).

Your background and what you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in earth science, environmental science or geological/geotechnical/civil engineering with an emphasis in water resources and hydrogeology. A post-graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Professional license in NL (i.e., P.Geo. or P.Eng.)
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience (preferably in consulting).
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks for groundwater withdrawal/use, drinking water supply, contaminated sites assessment and management, and environmental assessment is required.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure, pit and quarry, and community supply required. Specific experience in the mining industry is considered an asset.
  • Groundwater flow and transport modeling experience is an asset.
  • Numerical and advanced hydraulic testing experience is an asset.
  • Senior project management and people management skills are required.
  • Valid driver's license
