OFFICE CLERK I

The Town of Carbonear requires the services of a Full Time Office Clerk I at the town office. This position will be responsible for:

• Municipal Tax Collection
• Assist with review and posting of annual tax levy and preparation of annual tax invoices
• Distribution of customer statements and tax invoices
• Preparation of tax invoices for supplementary assessments
• Respond to taxpayer inquiries
• Perform general ledger transactions
• Review monthly general ledger reports to ensure it balances with daily reports
• Record name changes on electronic files for properties that are sold.
• Prepare supplementary assessment request and change of name/address notifications.
• Assist with receipt of tax payments and posting of invoices
• General office work as required including answering the telephone, communicating with the general public, preparing correspondence and other reports, filing, and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The preferred candidate should possess good communication and organizational skills and be able to develop a good rapport with the public, however, firm in the collection of taxes. Minimum educational training would include being a college graduate from an accounting program or business education program including training in computers (e.g. accounting software, word processing and spreadsheets). Minimum of three years experience in a related field. The preferred candidate would have experience in a municipal office environment and experience using Town Suite software.

This is a unionized position and compensation will be as per the collective agreement.
