In partnership with Meridia Recruitment, Midland Transport is seeking a Maintenance Shop Supervisor to join their team in Brampton, Ontario.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Shop Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of a large, fast-paced maintenance facility supporting a diverse fleet. This role is responsible for leading a team of technicians, coordinating workflow, and ensuring the efficient execution of preventative maintenance and repairs. Acting as the operational lead within the shop, you will set daily priorities, monitor key performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement across shop performance. You will play a critical role in fostering a strong team environment, supporting technician development, and implementing change initiatives that enhance productivity, safety, and overall effectiveness.
In this role, you will:
- Plan and coordinate daily shop activities in collaboration with the Maintenance Coordinator
- Set clear priorities for technicians, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal resource allocation
- Monitor and manage key performance indicators, including preventative maintenance completion and unit downtime
- Identify performance gaps and implement action plans to improve shop efficiency and output
- Supervise and support technicians, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with all regulatory standards
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams, vendors, and external service providers
- Oversee vendor work and support contractor coordination within the shop environment
- Contribute to cost control by monitoring shop expenses and supporting budget adherence
- Lead regular team discussions focused on safety, performance, and continuous improvement
- Support the training, coaching, and development of technicians, promoting skill advancement and engagement
- Provide leadership in change management initiatives, building team buy-in and accountability
- Step in with hands-on support when required to meet operational demands
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you are a hands-on leader who brings a strong balance of technical knowledge, emotional intelligence, and operational awareness. You have a natural ability to lead from the front, build trust with your team, and create a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Your Qualifications include:
- Trade certification in a mechanical discipline or post-secondary education in a related field; Red Seal designation is considered an asset
- 4-7 years of experience in a mechanical or maintenance environment, including progressive leadership or supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop diverse teams in a dynamic setting
- Strong change management skills with the ability to build buy-in and guide teams through evolving processes
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to set expectations, provide constructive feedback, and foster collaboration
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing tasks while maintaining focus on operational goals
- Comfortable using performance metrics to monitor, evaluate, and enhance team productivity
- Professional, approachable, and solutions-oriented demeanour, modelling company values and fostering a positive workplace culture
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
