Department of Biology

The Biology Department is a unit in the Faculty of Science at the Fredericton campus. There are 26 Faculty and 8 staff members all working out of the Loring Baily Hall Building. The role of the Department is to conduct original research, which includes projects on a diverse range of experimental organisms and ecology, and to provide high-quality educational opportunities for graduate (PhD, MSc) and undergraduate students.

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the co-Directors of the Stable Isotopes in Nature Laboratory (SINLAB), the Science Manager is responsible for providing research expertise to clients and for maintaining the lab's position as a state-of-the-art facility.

  • Act as the primary contact for client communication.
  • Advise internal and external clients using stable isotopes in their research, which may include study design, sample collection, sample preparation, sample analysis and associated data analysis.
  • Communicate client priorities, deadlines, and project updates to the SINLAB team.
  • Assist clients with data interpretation and respond to follow-up questions after data delivery.
  • Prepare detailed quotes for analytical services, including consultation on appropriate analytical approaches, replication, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) practices.
  • Manage client invoicing and billing and coordinate with university finance and research offices.
  • Lead the SINLAB team in implementing/revising the lab QA/QC protocols such as the development of new standards for use in C, N, H, O and S analyses.
  • Actively participate in inter-laboratory comparisons, and ensure data meets all QA/QC criteria.
  • Remain up to date with published literature.
  • Ability to run all equipment and cover for the technical manager.
  • Conduct sample preparation and analytical pretreatments.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Master of Science
  • 5 years experience working in a stable isotope facility

Additional Strengths

  • Experience in Microsoft Office 365, IRMS and Isodat NT
  • General administrative skills, including strong organizational and communication skills.
