Job SummaryNL Health Services seeks a highly qualified and experienced Dual-Certified Laboratory Geneticist (Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics) to provide scientific and clinical support for molecular genetics and cytogenetics services within the province?s Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) program and the Centre for Translational Genomics (CTG). The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of high-quality diagnostic testing, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and support the advancement of genomic medicine across Newfoundland and Labrador.
The incumbent will actively participate in the implementation of high-throughput sequencing and integrate laboratory services with provincial precision medicine, cancer care, and the medical genetic program initiatives. The incumbent plays a critical role in test development, standardization, academic collaboration, and continuous quality improvement.
The Dual-Certified Laboratory Geneticist for PLM reports directly to the Senior Provincial Director for administrative oversight and the Head of the Division of Genome Diagnostics and the clinical chief of PLM for medical/scientific oversight. Maintaining a matrix reporting structure supporting the Zone Directors and Clinical Leadership throughout the PLM program.
Job Qualifications
Education
o PhD or MD with dual certification in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics from the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) or American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG).
Experience
o Experience in high-complexity molecular and cytogenetic testing, test development, and validation.
o Proven leadership in laboratory quality systems and accreditation processes.
o Excellent communication and collaborative skills to support interdisciplinary teamwork.
