The Director provides strategic direction and oversight for the Global Defined Contribution (DC) pension and savings arrangements, as well as various Global Employee Share Ownerships Plans (ESOP) in Global Rewards ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Accountable for thought leadership with respect to DC governance, investments, legislation, member behaviour analysis, education and communication strategies.
- Manage and oversee the various phases of new plan launches and/or implementation of program modifications, including project documentation, socialization, external provider negotiation, and positioning programs for execution.
- Direct and perform regular review of current programs and recommend improvements or new requirements for global DC and ESOPs, ensuring programs are cost?efficient, competitive, aligned with emerging trends, best practices, and compliance requirements.
- Direct and manage outside suppliers (actuaries, consultants, insurers, outsource providers) to ensure optimal service and effective relationships.
- Direct the governance reporting of DC pension programs to the various governance bodies.
- Manage preparation of materials for pension fiduciary/governance committees (Board, Human Capital Committee, CAP Committee, Qualified Pension Committee, UK GPPP Committee, etc.); participate, present, and act as member or Secretary as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain relationships with business leaders, relationship management teams, compensation, benefits, HR delivery, finance, and legal to ensure programs align with business needs and total rewards philosophy.
- Represent the Bank and its interests in relevant industry associations, committees, or groups.
- Direct high?visibility program design and processes, securing Board approvals for programs managed by senior executive committees (CEO & President, Group Heads, EVPs) such as the Scotiabank Pension Plan, Savings Plan, and ESOP.
- Provide thought leadership and planning expertise, including preparation of proposals and business cases for Executive approval.
- Direct day?to?day activities consistent with the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite, communicating these throughout the team.
- Create an environment supporting effective and efficient operations aligned with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring strong business controls and compliance (operational, AML/ATF, sanctions, conduct risk).
- Build a high?performance environment and implement a people strategy to attract, retain, develop, and motivate talent through inclusive leadership, coaching, communication, and succession planning.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have:
- CEBS designation an asset.
- University degree in business, finance, arts or comparable subject matter.
- 15+ years of relevant experience working with financial markets and DC pension plans.
- In-depth knowledge of DC governance, investments, legislation, member behaviour analysis, retirement income adequacy, employee education and communication strategies.
- A combination of analytical and creative thinking skills, in order to manage both the policy/plan design and communication aspects of the position.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills in order to clearly summarize and effectively share complex information with various audiences.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to build close working relationships with a large number of individuals across the Bank and among external advisors and regulators
- Broad understanding of all elements of Total Rewards
- Strategic influencing skills to execute complex projects. Identifies key stakeholders required for success and actively engages them in key business planning decisions. Works well within the corporate culture and effectively manages the dynamics within the Bank.
- Strong cross-cultural leadership skills required to effectively interact with business partners globally. Shows flexibility and openness to differing ideas and perspectives, adapts to cultural differences, and effectively interacts with others of different backgrounds and styles.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills in order to clearly summarize and effectively share complex information with various audiences.
- Experience leading and implementing change in a complex corporate environment and guiding a team through change.

- Requires collaboration with finance on multiple fronts including the CFO, capital management, expense management, accounting policies and procedures and statutory reporting teams.
