CANADIAN INSTITUTE FOR CYBERSECURITY
The Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC) is a multi-disciplinary unit that offers comprehensive training, research, and entrepreneurial services. The institute collaborates closely with experts from various fields, including computer science, engineering, law, social sciences, business, and science, and other research centers. Founded in 2016, CIC provides a platform for researchers and practitioners to work together in a congenial environment, share ideas, and undertake interdisciplinary research and training.

Salary Range: $57,669 - $74,969 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Director of Canadian Institute of Cybersecurity, the Strategic Partnership & Economic Development Manager establishes and maintains research and development as well as business relationships with companies both in Canada and abroad. Additionally, this role oversees the delivery of training and consulting contracts.

  • Build and maintain relationships with senior officials across universities, industry, and government in Canada and internationally.
  • Develop and implement an economic development framework for CIC, including business attraction initiatives in public and private sectors and strategies for recruitment, retention, and expansion.
  • Monitor economic development trends and information from regional, provincial, national, and international sources and respond to inquiries from the public, businesses, and industry partners.
  • Develop strategies to increase participation and representation of under-represented groups.
  • Implement approaches to gather regular feedback from key clients to improve the quality of programs and services.
  • Implement established policies and recommend updates or draft new policies as required.
  • Negotiate financial budgets for corporate training and consulting contracts.
  • Support recruitment and hiring of contract staff to deliver corporate client training and consulting services.
  • Supervise part-time and contract-based business development officers.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences and support industry and government initiatives, including trade shows, public presentations, and displays.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and administrative support to local business development organizations in alignment with CIC priorities.
  • Complete additional related duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in private sector business or economic development-related positions.

Additional Strengths

  • Experience in educational/training or consulting environment is a strong asset.
  • International experience is an asset; knowledge of foreign cultures and languages is highly desirable.
  • Experience in post-secondary environments in Canada and/or abroad is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior technical professionals in business and industry.
  • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities to apply knowledge of public and private economic development techniques and resources to complex issues.
  • Able to identify regional and national economic development opportunities.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to inspire confidence and trust with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral, written, and computer-based communication skills and significant experience in negotiating and writing proposals.
  • Excellent computer skills; knowledge of MS Office suite (advanced Microsoft Excel) and database a necessity.
  • Comprehend, apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and resources from a variety of perspectives/sources.
  • Works equally well independently or as part of a team.
