The Role
Reporting to the Vice President Vice President of Medical Services, Sr. Director - Provincial Medical Services is a member of the senior leadership team with the primary focus on providing consistent administrative leadership and support to recruit, develop, manage, and engage physicians. within Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services. They will work closely with other senior leaders to support the clinical and academic mandates of the NLHS and enable the ongoing delivery of fully integrated medical services in the province, and provides leadership in the development and execution of strategic and operational plans, managing budgets, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met to deliver the best possible quality of care and service.
The Sr. Director - Provincial Medical Services will have responsibility for areas that include:
- Strategic Planning: Serving as a member of senior management, leads region-wide strategic planning efforts and addresses organization-wide policy and management issues for the Medical Services in alignment with their provincial and regional counterparts. Ensures the credentialing and privileging of Medical Staff uses a standardized provincial approach which ensures the provision of high-quality medical care across the organization.
- Talent Recruitment and Retention: Developing a talent management strategy for Medical Services across the province that involves close collaboration with physician leaders to develop tools and approaches to attract, recruit and retain physicians.
- Thought Leadership: Managing and developing people. You are a dynamic individual who has an ability to drive consensus, resolve conflict and facilitate solutions. You are an excellent communicator. Working closely with the members of senior leadership team to facilitate effective lines of communication across the organization on all issues related to Medical Services.
- Stakeholder Relationship Management: Building strong partnerships both provincially and nationally with specific linkages to the Department of Health and Community Services, the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Faculty of Medicine, as well as championing and incorporating patient and family centered care within the Medical Services Program.
- Service Delivery and Quality Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to safety, and partner with all team members to improve employee and patient safety by integrating safety into daily work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements. Quality and risk management, including developing and maintaining a quality assurance program.
- Leadership and Culture: Establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with physicians to ensure effective ongoing relations and whereby physicians feel a part of the organizational culture. Provides leadership and guidance to the Zone Medical Service teams and Clinical Chiefs on operational and administrative issues.
- Financial Stewardship and Accountability: Support sound financial management through accurate business planning and forecasting within assigned operational mandates.
- Provide leadership to promote a healthy, safe, diverse and respectful workplace by championing and practicing sound human resources management by attracting, recruiting and retaining high calibre talent; promoting teamwork, and ensuring employees have the tools and resources they require to perform at their best.

Requirements of the Role
The ideal candidate will draw on 5 years of experience at a senior leadership level involved in a health care setting as well as familiarity with the bylaws respecting Medical Staff, the Physician Memorandum of Agreement, organizational policies, and procedures. Demonstrated experience in human resource management, the development of standardized policies and procedures, and program planning is essential. The successful candidate will have extensive credentials as a senior administrator, strategist, and policy developer and have exceptional communication skills both with internal and external stakeholders. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience, and independence, in complex decision making in a health system setting. Candidates should be Masters prepared or demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience.
