Port Hawkesbury Paper is currently seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our Purchasing team. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer is responsible for supporting and/or leading projects and initiatives to lower costs for materials and services, developing and improving supplier relationships, and driving work process improvements to reduce costs and increase productivity throughout the supply chain.

Responsibilities:

  • Source raw materials and/or alternate raw materials to meet production needs
  • Develop, analyze and manage supplier on time delivery metrics
  • Manage, develop and/or improve internal and external relationships
  • Assist with optimization and reduction of inventory through supplier and procurement initiatives
  • Lead negotiations with suppliers and service providers
  • Supervise Stores Operators as required

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in a Business or related field
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management
  • SCMP designation or current enrollment considered an asset

Skills/Competency Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Experience with purchase order creation, contract principles, inventory management and transportation systems
  • Exceptional computer skills with advanced experience in MS Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Proficient with the RFP process
  • Experience with ERP
  • Inbound transportation experience
  • Ability to work independently, patiently and proactively to find creative solutions in a time sensitive manner
  • Knowledge and experience in developing vendor rebate programs and opportunities
  • Strong understanding of pricing and financial information
  • Robust communication, organization and leadership skills
