The Opportunity
As a valued member of the Safety Team reporting to the Manager of Safety, the Safety and Work Methods Advisor is responsible for the following:
- Contributes to the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of all required corporate safety programs including those associated with the company's ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System.
- Monitors regulatory compliance and due diligence related to OH&S legislation and associated regulations and standards.
- Establishes safety standards, safe work methods, procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Assists with the development and delivery of training programs corporate wide.
- Actively coaching and supporting employees and supervisors to achieve compliance with safety rules and procedures.
- Responsible to conduct workplace risk assessments, job hazard analysis, and work observations.
- Provides expertise to supervisors during event analysis and learning and to support the development of strategies to prevent injuries or illness in the workplace.
- Supports and contributes to work methods initiatives (e.g. contributing feedback to continuously improve operating procedures, supporting the monitoring of compliance with safe work methods and procedures, etc.).
- Lead/participate in safety codes development, communication coaching and interpretation.
- Provide consultative services to leadership with respect to OHS responsibilities.
- Promote and exemplify the safety culture at Newfoundland Power.
- Represent Newfoundland Power on various external OHS organizations/boards/committees.
Your qualifications include:
- Powerline Technician (Red Seal certificate), Industrial or Commercial Electrician, Millwright or Electrical Engineering Technologist.
- A minimum of 5 years' work experience in utility operations.
- CRSP designation would be an asset.
- Travel (including overnight) with short notice to respond to urgent safety concerns may be required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Holding and maintaining a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
- Being a highly motivated team player with a strong commitment to safety and customer service.
- An excellent work ethic, and effective interpersonal skills.
Office location for this position is flexible and will be determined based on the candidate pool and available office space.
