The Nova Scotia Education Common Services Bureau (NSECSB) (the "Bureau") was established in 2018 under Nova Scotia's Education Act to support the efficient administration and operations of Nova Scotia's public education system and to provide and administer services to support groups for the benefit of individuals or groups related to the education system.

Under the guidance of the Compensation Consultant, the Compensation Analyst provides analytical, research, and coordination support related to the administration of compensation and classification under the Non-Union Compensation Framework. The Analyst supports relationships with Human Resources teams and leaders across the Regional Centres for Education (RCEs) and the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) by contributing to salary administration, job evaluation research, data analysis, and the coordination of compensation processes. The Compensation Analyst also supports projects that enhance tools, resources, and practices to promote consistent, equitable, and effective compensation practices across Nova Scotia's public education system.

Key Accountabilities

  • In collaboration with the Compensation Consultant, support the coordination and day?to?day administration of the Non?Union Compensation Framework for the RCEs and CSAP, including responding to routine compensation inquiries.
  • In collaboration with RCE/CSAP HR units, provide salary ratings for placement of employees in approved salary ranges (e.g., new hires, promotions/demotions, acting assignments).
  • Support job evaluation processes by gathering job information, preparing research and comparator summaries, and ensuring complete and accurate evaluation files.
  • Prepare, validate, and analyze employee compensation data to support monthly reporting, costing, monitoring activities, and other ad hoc projects.
  • Contribute to the development of enhanced reporting templates that facilitates the analysis of data related to compensation and benefits initiatives.
  • Support compensation and job alignment projects by conducting research, preparing reports, and assisting with the development of recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of tools, resources, and training materials to build compensation knowledge and capacity within HR teams across the RCEs/CSAP.

Working Conditions

  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day, 8:30 - 4:30 with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.
  • Position is located within a comfortable office setting using a computer which involves intermittent distractions from incoming inquiries via telephone, and email, and typical office noise.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in a Human Resources or related discipline or a Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience supporting, coordinating, or contributing to compensation and/or human resources programs, including experience working with large data sets.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data, including proficiency in MS Excel.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, build relationships, and collaborate with HR partners across multiple organizations.
  • Some training and/or experience in job evaluation is an asset.
  • CPHR Candidate would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in French is considered an asset.
